About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Steaks are always a favorite, as well as simple, hearty soups and stews. I love experimenting with French cooking, because my grandmother's side of the family is French and I was raised on lots of French foods. Baking is probably my overall favorite though. Nothing puts a smile on your face faster than the smell of a wonderful, sweet, homey dessert or loaf of fresh homemade bread!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always loved watching my grandfather cook when I was little, and my mother is a fantastic cake decorator. She used to make the most beautiful birthday cakes for me when I was a child, and she really inspired my love of baking.
My cooking triumphs
I'm pretty handy with desserts, especially adapting them to be healthier without losing their overall character. I want to live a long, healthy life, but what's the point if there's no dessert in it?
My cooking tragedies
The worst one I can remember is an attempt at a brandy cream sauce to go with a porterhouse steak I was making as Easter dinner. The steak turned out wonderfully, but the sauce turned into an oily mess with burned bits throughout! Still not sure what happened there, but luckily I had a bit of truffle butter on hand to top the steaks off with for finishing.

Linda's Lasagna
Best lasagna recipe I've ever tried, hands down. Definitely stick with the cottage cheese, it's perfect! I also added a layer of buffalo mozzarella and it was even better.

These were very similar to the zeppoles I got at the county fairs in new jersey as a child, much better than I expected. They were soft, tender, and delicious. My friend agreed, and was eating them almost as fast as I could get them out of the fryer! I just threw mine in a bag with some powdered sugar and shook them up, just like we did at the fairs. Wonderful recipe, really brought me back. I did change the sugar to one tablespoon.
