I never enjoyed cooking until I decided to become a vegetarian. Now I have a passion for food and working with the healthiest, organic ingredients I can find. My new love is Raw Food and I am anxious to put my new food dehydrator to work. I try to influence others positively through my own choices and actions.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE vegan Arepas! It is fun to create and layer and has a lot of amazing flavor; it also makes for a beautiful plate. I love to cook good tofu (that even most haters can enjoy).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was always making a great sauce with most meals. I am from the south and love the food, but not the calories. I love taking my family's traditional recipes and making them vegan/vegetarian with healthy substitutions.
My cooking triumphs
Indian food! So many spices and steps, but worth every moment.
This year my boyfriend and I found an organic pumpkin farm and spent two days cooking a seitan stew with root vegetables. The final step was baking our stew inside the whole pumpkin. It was delicious!
This year I also created an entire vegetarian Thanksgiving meal from scratch, only using organic ingredients. It was a lot of work with a big pay off in the end. I enjoyed every tedious moment!!
My cooking tragedies
I really stink at frying things. I take this as a sign from the Universe that I do not need fried foods, no matter how much my southern roots tell my different. : )
