About this Cook
My husband & I were recently married in Hawaii. It was a wonderful experience. I love cooking for him, especially baking pies. He's a mountain biker with a metabolism that must burn at the speed of light, so he's a real carb freak. It's been fun to try out some new stuff I've found here on him. 2nd - he's totally honest about how something turns out, so when he tells me he loves it, I can believe it. I have 3 children, all grown (well kinda - they're over 18 anyway :D) and 3 beautiful grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
I love fixing those traditional dinners, you know, the ones using the recipes handed down from grandma's, to moms, to daughters. I also love baking pretty traditional pies for my husband, he's a carb & sweet freak so it's fun to watch him enjoy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom's recipes - she was the best cook I'd ever met! And even though I consider myself a good cook, I can't compare to her even when I use the pans she handed down to me and the same recipes!
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out well. Our 4th of July celebrations are turning out pretty wonderful. Oh and when my husband and I first met, we would take turns fixing dinner for each other (it was so romantic) and experimented with some wonderful recipes. One of the standouts - 3 meat Lasagna...... WOW is it unbelievable!!!! I will post it soon.... along with the entire meal I fixed that night. Probably one of my best meals ever!
My cooking tragedies
Leaving the giblets in the first turkey I cooked! hahaha - how many young women do that? Probably more than will admit it....... and recently - i combined a recipe from my mom's OLD cookbook along with my newer one and made a home-made coconut cream pie. I normally make a GREAT one, but decided to try something a bit different. IT WAS HORRIBLE, between the combination of the 2 recipes from old and new books - it was salty and unedible!!!! to the trash it went!

Chef John's Perfect Mashed Potatoes
You can't go wrong! I've always preferred using the "hand mashed" method rather than whipping potatoes to death with a mixer! They get rubbery! (gross lol) anyway - these are perfect and i did purchase specially white ground pepper. I've never liked black pepper much, the white is perfect! thank you!

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
WONDERFUL! I couldn't locate my mom's old standby to use to make for my son's graduation BBQ. I prefer pies that use corn starch as the thickening agent. This pie uses both, but found it to set up perfectly, it did not have the pasty flour taste I don't like when using flour only. I wondered if 2 lemons would be enough...this was perfectly tart/sweet and did remind me of my mom's. AND, I actually made meringue for the first time in years! It turned out lovely! I will most certainly make this again! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!

Boneless Buffalo Wings
I normally don't do this....but....I CHEATED! i bought frozen already breaded chicken tenders, made the sauce (with Frank's Red Hot and doubled the butter)...WHAT A FAST QUICK SNACK, SUPPER OR APPETIZER FOR GAME DAY! enjoy either on your own fried wings, breasts or cheat like i did for a really fast meal!!!
