The main theme in my life is family; espescially the 3 year old grandson. Both my husband and I are retired, love to travel some, keep the grandson, camping, fishing, family get to gathers. We always stay busy.
My favorite things to cook
As the years go by my cooking has changed. Now it is just the 2 of us we cook quick easy foods most of the time. In the past I cooked for large groups and family members and loved every minute. Now we like salads, quick Italian dishes, Mexican and stir fry as some of our favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For as long as I can remember homemade noodles were made at Thanksgiving using the broth of the turkey. My grandmother always let me string out the noodles after she rolled and cut them. After she passed my Mother was the one who always made the noodles that everyone loved. Now I make the noodles. From the time babies are eating in this family they all love noodles, a tradition I hope my daughter continues.
My cooking triumphs
My Mother always made a chocolate pound cake (or white) that everyone wanted at any gathering. Baking was never my thing, something always happened. I found her recipe in an old book after she passed and a month ago I finally tried it. To my surprise it was just as I remembered - terrific! Moist and yummy. A simple recipe but always thought mine was not as good. It was.
My cooking tragedies
As I said above baking was and is not my best cooking effort. Shortly after I was married, almost 40 years ago, I decided to make a sponge cake for my husband. After it was all done the cake was just not right! It was so heavy and terrible my husband said I could have used it for a door stop! I have heard that story for all my married life. However, it was lemon pies that kept him coming back to begin with!
