Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2014
I have never made a cake from scratch before and I have been baking for a long time. This cake has several steps and does take time. I strongly urge 1)check to be sure your baking powder is still active; 2)separating the eggs is the best way to add them--I separated the eggs and beat the yolks before adding; 3)fresh strawberry is great--I used 6 big ones and 1 TBSP of sugar in my food processor. I think the next time (and there will be a next time), I'll cut back the flour to 2 1/4 c. I also think I'll use real strawberries using my food processor. I didn't think the flavor was strawberry enough and don't want to buy strawberry extract (but will consider it). The cake was good but a little denser than I expected but received the A-OK from husband so it must be good since he isn't a real big cake eater. Also I read the reviews and someone suggested to freeze the cake before frosting and it was far and above better than Pam (LOL)! I will make this again with fresh baking powder. I am very pleased with my efforts and the result was better than I expected!

Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2014
this recipe is fantastic and I do not like or make anything with Jello as a rule.I did follow some of the tips given here: 1) use two 16 oz frozen strawberries using the juice as part of the mix with the jello and using 1/4c boiling water to dissolve the jello--but I used one pack and then added the second when it didn't seem to gel: 2) I used about 3 cups of chopped pretzels and bake for 8 1/2 minutes and it was perfect, but cut the sugar for the filling to a 'heavy' 3/4c sugar and that was enough. I did sprinkle some of the leftover pretzels over top to help with the extra jello on top. This was the biggest hit at dinner I have made. I expected to come home with some but I was, pleasantly surprised, to come home with a totally empty pan!! last suggestion, use a 9x13 pan and no need to spray either.:)Have already been asked to make again. Thanks for a great salad-dessert!

Cowboy Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2014
my husband loves it! nacon--I usedd baked neadext time I will not use Grands biscuits as they didn't cook through for me in 10 minutes (closer to 20 and then some of casserole stuck to the bottom) but instead of using bacon I used Bus's baked beans that has bacon in it. And I cut some mild cheddar into little pieces and stuck them into each biscuit. this is an easy and satisfying casserole and not heavy.Be sure I will be making this again.

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2013
we love lemon in cookies and this was fabulous!!! will make this positively make again1 I ran out of white sugar and was a little more tart than the recipe BUT awesome lemon flavor (I did use 5 real lemons). I have to say I really really don't like when instead of comments or rating a recipe people actually submit their own as a comment. that's not make a comment--at least submit YOUR OWN version.

Cranberry Salad VII

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2013
y husband makes a cranberry 'relish' very much like this but he uses black cherry jello and no celery. We eat it so fast we argue who gets the first taste!!! It is important how to mix the jello so it gels properly. TRY this even if you don't like cranberries--you WILL NOT be sorry!!

Zucchini Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2013
I just made these with the last of the zucchini. I was not impressed with them. They did have a chocolate flavor but definitely not like a brownie or a cake--more like a coffeecake. I didn't use icing as my family is not big on icing on anything. Since I do have frozen zucchini, this is not what I do with it. I followed the recipe exactly as written but let out the nuts (not big fan). I was disappointed with this.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2013
I just finished making this cake and I followed the directions exactly (and yes, I used 11/2 cups of canola oil) My husband said this is how we'll use the grated zucchini from the garden. My youngest daughter makes a fantastic zucchini bread but my husband likes this better! Although I did spray the Bundt pan well, it still stuck some to the bottom but that is what hubby ate hot!! No icing or glaze needed either. I was quite worried about the batter when it went into the pan; however it did take close to 60 minutes to be done but well worth the wait. will make this again for sure!!

Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 10, 2013
I tried this recipe and added more bananas (they were extra, extra ripe) and added a little vanilla and cinnamon. The bread did take longer than stated but the taste was amazing!! This did not last very long in my house!! (in a good way). Husband asking when I'll make this again--that's the best compliment!! A real keeper at my house.

Cinnamon Bread II

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2013
just made this and it is wonderful and just what hubby and son asked for. It just came out of bread machine and it's half gone already. I followed the recipe exactly and used bread machine yeast. This is a perfect bread for us. They were bored with the plain bread recipe and wanted something a little more. This is THE bread recipe from now one.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2013
I have been putting off making these since it is a two-step recipe but I am pleased how easy this was to make. My family really liked it and my son is a 'raw-cough dough' lover! I also followed Blondeprincess suggestions when I made these! I used a simple chocolate buttercream to ice these. I will make these again--the cookie dough was perfect without the eggs and I added a TBS of cocoa powder to the batter (since hubby doesn't like anything but chocolate!) It is a recipe you HAVE to try there is nothing hard about this unless you can't follow a recipe! I really don't understand how people are critical of a recipe when the recipe isn't followed. Learn what you did wrong before being critical of the recipe--not THAT many people can like a bad recipe :D

Amish Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2013
I had high hopes for this bread. It was Ok but not the recipe I want as my 'go-to bread' recipe. The only thing I did change is I used melted butter instead of the oil. It was not a big hit but my husband did say it would make great 'coffee soup'!! I will keep this recipe but it won't be THE bread recipe. As long as family will eat it, that's a positive sign. I love good bread but this is not the one, for me. I strongly believe in the taste is the best judge of any recipe and this just was not there.

Aunt Mamie's

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2012
I added the mini chocolate chips to this and it was fantastic. The recipe looks a little time-consuming but believe me it was one of the easiest cookies ever!! My husband asked when I could make these again!! (He doesn't like cookies either!! ) This one is a definite keeper and will make again. I wish I could call them something--there cookies and there are these. whatever my family would give these a 10 if they could:)

Adam's Apple Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2012
my husband and son went crazy over this cake--they couldn't eat it fast enough. I did add an extra apple as mine were small. the batter is VERY think but I dotted a few skimpy pieces of butter over the top before I put in the oven. this is scrumptious and worth ten stars. after prep of the apples, it was simple. also I have a convection oven and it was done in about 50 minutes. allrecipes never fails me when I use any of their recipes and this definitely din not disaappoint. this will be made again I am sure

Chocolate Pizzelles

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
I made these because my husband thinks all cookies should be should. they were ok but I wasn't that impressed. They were easy to make but I do prefer that old-fashioned anise flavored pitzelles I remember as a kid!! I think if they were a little more chocolate-ly maybe I would like them. But husband really likes so they will be made again but I may add mini chocolate chips and see what happens.

Chicken, Sausage and Zucchini Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2012
Although this was a relatively easy recipes, I did not like it. I did use homegrown tomatoes, and a jar of my favorite sauce but this was not a very well received dinner. I also substituted cremini mushrooms [my favorite kind] but I am very unlikely to be bothered to make again. Just not what I expected at all. I love pasta but will pass on this.

S'More Bars II

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2012
I love this recipe!! Do not use Pam or such, butter the pan. I made the crust and used milk chocolate pieces -- put it in oven until just almost melted [about 10 min]. took pan out and while hot, sprinkled main marshmallows and rest of crust on top. total time was about 15 minutes. my friend and I ate half the pan after it was cooled. But it is rich and soooooooooooooo good! will definitely make again [and again] my friend already asked when will she get more:)
