About this Cook
I come from a great cook and a family who loves to eat. It follows that I love to eat and love to cook. I cook to relax, I cook for unique flavors, I cook because there are only 3 decent restaurants in my town. :( Not really kidding about that.
My favorite things to cook
Roasted dinners, anything new and different, challenging technique recipes. Day to day, meatloaf, tacos, spaghetti, you name it, I'll cook it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Potato and macaroni salad a la Mom.
My cooking triumphs
Enchilada dinner for 100 Masons, BBQ party in my backyard for 100 people, catering my friend's daughter's wedding with only my mom's help.
My cooking tragedies
Early on, thinking I had memorized how to make a quick Jello dessert and not putting enough liquid in it & too much vanilla. Tasted like medicine. Making a rice pilaf with LOTS of onions in it. Inedible.

Baked Sweet Potatoes
I love roasted sweet potatos. However I cook them at 425 for 20-25 minutes. They get browned on the sides and are soft in the middle. Yum.

Nana's Zucchini Quiche
I made this following the recipe pretty closely. Used quite a bit more seasoning than called for and a blend of pepper jack, havarti and sharp cheddar as I'm not much a fan of mozzarella. The pie is very creamy, not wet at all and the vegies on top get a little browned. I liked the flavor a lot; being in a fall mode. Is very filling & would make a great brunch, lunch or dinner dish.
