I followed the advise of another reviewer (Kandiee), and the brownies were just superb. It took longer for the center to bake completely, as a result I ended up with some not so chewy edges. Next time I will use foil to help keep the edges moist while the center bakes. They were super chewy!!
For those reviewers getting a sugar film on top, I would recommend creaming the liquid ingredients together first, then add the sugar. THEN add flour, cocoa, etc. Make sure all the liquid ingredients are well creamed before adding the dry ing.
The recipe adjustments I used:
1 c oil
3 eggs
3 Tbsp light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1/3 c baking cocoa
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 c chopped pecans
Cream liquid ingredients together for 2-3 minutes until well mixed. Add sugars and mix for another 2-3 minutes until well mixed. Add flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix until batter is nice and smooth. Stir in pecans. Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes. After 25 minutes, if center is still baking, wrap foil around edges (2" deep) to prevent drying.
