My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking, and even scratch-baked bread for a little cafe for a couple of years. I also enjoy taking recipes from cookbooks and 'spring-boarding' into a variation not previously included in the original work.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I loved when I was young and we (My parents, my siblings, and I) would go to Grandma's for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner...we had the whole set-up: turkey, dressing, beans, corn, cornbread, rolls, three kinds of pie, yams, EVERYTHING!
My cooking triumphs
For Christmas dinner, my partner and I went to my dad's house for our first Christmas dinner with his fiancee (now my step-mom) and her extended family. I took a bread pudding based on the recipe in Joy of Cooking (1997 ed.) that I had baked in a Bundt pan, with craisins. It was the hit of the day!
My cooking tragedies
I learned the hard way, that while one can have a positive outcome simmering their St. Paddy's Day corned beef in beer, it does NOT work with Guinness. (The meat comes out bitter...ick!)
