About this Cook
I'm 30 and live in Harlem, NYC. My family is from New Orleans and I grew up in North Carolina, so my cooking and lifestyle incorporate elements from a wide variety of cultures.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy a wide variety. Lean meat or seafood dishes, pasta, soups (both cold and hot) and vegetarian meals are some of my favorites. I eat vegetarian about 50% of the time.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is Cajun, and so there are so many delicious things to learn from gumbos, etouffes to good old fashioned crawfish boils.
My cooking triumphs
I am beginning to branch out a bit and learn to make some Indian dishes (one of my favorite world cuisines), and my roommate has taught me how to prepare a variety of Puerto Rican foods enjoyed by his family.
My cooking tragedies
Dried beans.. I tried using em to save money before and no matter what I do to them or how long I cook them, I end up with a pot of rocks. I sometimes have to tone down my spices too, as some find my dishes too spicy otherwise.

Meatball Nirvana
These are delicious and easy to make. I used sage instead of oregano, and an egg instead of milk. I had one immediately in a sandwich and froze the rest for later use. I would definitely use this recipe again.

Get a Husband Brunswick Stew
This is Brunswick Stew exactly the way I remember it. I have used this recipe several times with only minor variations.

Indian Tomato Chicken
This was amazing. I used ground ginger & cinnamon, as I did not have fresh on hand. I also used allspice and nutmeg in place of the cardamom. It came out absolutely perfect, and I will definitely try it again with the recommended ingredients. I served this with green beans, steamed from frozen and tossed in the remaining sauce.
