About this Cook
I live in Shreveport, LA with my husband, John. We've been married since 1987. We love animals and have 3 adopted cats, a Jack Russell mix puppy and a 16 year old Doxie named Jackie Jo. On March 31st of 2011 be lost our beloved 15 yr old Doxie Gracie Ann to heart failure.
My favorite things to cook
Cheeseburgers are my favorite food and when we don't grill them I cook them inside like my Mom did. She topped them with cheese then the buns. She then put the lid on and let them steam. They turn out soft cheesy and juicy. I mainly cook home style cooking. We grill out a lot. Over the years I've cook a lot of Southern Living dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I've have made homemade pizza our whole marriage. That's something we really enjoy doing. My husband's chilli, spaghetti sauce and jumbo and favs of our and friends. I like to make chicken fried steak, plus lots of veggies on the side like my mother-in-law did. Purple-hull peas, speckled butter beans, creamed corn, squash with onion, jalapeno cornbread.
My cooking triumphs
I remember as a young women watching older women cook with great skill without having to use recipes all the time. I've finally got to that point in my life that I feel like I'm a good cook. I know what spices work well with what foods. I still use recipes, but don't always have to and have many of our favorite recipes memorized.

Great-Aunt Nina's Noodles and Chicken
This turned out great. I used frozen noodles and also added peas & corn along with the other vegetables.

Hobo Beef and Vegetable Soup
This is a great soup and I've made it several times. One time I was in a hurry and put the ground beef in the crock pot raw and it cooked up fine. Another time I used frozen mixed vegetables instead of canned. My husband doesn't like chunky stewed tomatoes so I use tomato sauce. Half way through I add more beef broth because it usually needs it.
