Long time no blog... veggies, pasta sauce, star wars pancakes

It's been a while so I can't remember everything I've done since last time. But I will try...
Now that it is summer we are getting weekly veggies through our CSA. Our farmshare happens to include lots of turnip type things they like to call "spinruts". They seem more like a cross between a turnip and a radish and are absolutely heavenly when boiled
in a mixture of chicken broth, butter, garlic, salt and sugar. Yummm. If you search Epicurious for turnips you'll find the recipe.
Also due to the summer season, I now have fresh herbs of my own. Yesterday I made my own pasta sauce with tomato sauce, fresh basil, fresh oregano, fresh garlic (ok, that was from the CSA too), red pepper flakes, salt, sugar, and pepper. It was quite good over
tortellini and healthier than my usual butter tomato sauce.
This month I also made pancakes from scratch for the first time while also using my new Star Wars pancake molds (from William-Sonoma) for the first time. I learned 2 things: 1 I love Bisquick. 2 Yoda is easier to flip than Vader. I will do this again, but I
will cheat on the mix next time. I don't know what Bisquick does to make the their pancakes so fluffy, but I do know that did not get them nearly as fluffy on my own. But for all the trials my 2 1/2 year old did enjoy eating Yoda's face. haha.
