I have a shameful secret to admit. When I make cookies, I normally use mixes like this one. They're tasty, they're easy, and I know they will come out just right. But this weekend my daughter and I wanted to make Valentines cookies and not only did we not have a mix in the house, we also had no eggs. So I grabbed my Betty Crocker cookbook and we made the first thing we could find that didn't involve eggs. I don't remember what they were called, but they taste like short-bread. 1 c. butter, 2 1/4 c. flour, 1/3 c. sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Simple. We added red food dye to make them pink. It was fun, and I am claiming that it counts as a new recipe for me.
Let's be honest, I've been falling down on the job in terms of cooking new things. I blame my on-again-off-again cold. It's hard to try new things when you're feeling sick. The closest thing I've come was trying a new way to make nachos (more layers and totally vegetarian), and making my pan-seared steak with t-bone rather than ribeye (I don't recommend it) so the cookies get the gold star for being the most adventurous. And they weren't even that good. haha.
