It's been a while so I can't remember everything I've done since last time. But I will try... Now that it is summer we are getting weekly veggies through our CSA. Our farmshare happens to include lots of turnip type things they like to call "spinruts". They seem more like a cross… MORE

This week my new recipe was ginger glazed pork chops from the Betty Crocker book. As usual I didn't stick to the recipe exactly. Here's what I did do... I broiled 2 boneless porkchops on hi until they were done through (about 12 minutes). In a sauce pan I mixed honey (~1/4 c.), ground ginger… MORE

Tonight I made sauce to go over our store-bought ravioli based on Salt & Fat's Butter-Tomato Sauce. I did add oregano, parmesan cheese, and garlic, and a bit of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomatoes. It was quite good with our chicken and cheese ravioli. I made enough for two meals for… MORE

This year for Passover we decided to host a seder at our house. Unfortunately some events transpired that made us cancel at the last minute, but not until after I had cooked all the food. Some of that food was eaten that night, the rest was later reheated and eaten. I made this haroset, Emril's… MORE

I made this baked scallop recipes. It was good, but I used unsalted butter because that's all I had. Unsurprisingly, it needed more salt! In general I would just up the spices a bit and decrease the topping, but otherwise recommend this recipe. I made that on Friday, so it counts for last week,… MORE

I roasted a whole chicken for the first time this weekend! I did it as a "Rapid Roast" ala this recipe. For seasoning I stuffed it with garlic and rubbed it with a mix of olive oil, dry basil, paprika, pepper, oregano, salt, and garlic. It took longer than the recipe said, but that was due to… MORE

My husband and I went to a class on Southern Italian cooking this week. We learned how to make chicken cacciatore, lemon green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, bruchetta, and creme brulee. It was fun, especially since my husband and I are both total garlic addicts and there was a lot of garlic in… MORE

The new thing I cooked last week was a teriyaki chicken and noodle stir-fry. In my big wok heated up some peanut oil and then added garlic and onion, then diced chicken breast (extra-tender, because that's my favorite. Then I added the carrots and teriyaki sauce. I used Kikkomon Spicy Miso… MORE

I made my second attempt at the Artoo cake this weekend. This time I made a double-batch of cake batter, so when it baked it poofed up over the rim, then I cut down the back to make it flat. I also decorated differently. I put in a thin laying of frosting, thin enough to still clearly see the… MORE

I have a shameful secret to admit. When I make cookies, I normally use mixes like this one. They're tasty, they're easy, and I know they will come out just right. But this weekend my daughter and I wanted to make Valentines cookies and not only did we not have a mix in the house, we also had no… MORE
