Mexican food, any kind of pastry/dessert, and really I like to try things I've never attempted before!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being of Mexican descent, tamales at Christmas time is mandatory. Having married into an Italian family, italian cookies and suchlike are a must.
My cooking triumphs
Successfully baking an italian bread recipe I downloaded off of this website (Thanks, Mama D!). It pleased my family so much that the bread became an instant staple in our family. No family get-together is complete without it!

Grandma's Iron Skillet Apple Pie
I had problems with this recipe. For starters, the bottom crust on mine welded itself to the bottom of the cast iron (all of my cast iron is seasoned VERY well!). Also, the middle layer of crust did not cook all the way through and turned out mushy. Lastly, this recipe could have used more apples easily. In all fairness, I will say that the flavor of the apple filling was incredible! To those considering this recipe, I would make the following changes just based upon my experience: when melting the butter and topping with the brown sugar, do this cooktop and not in the oven. When you lay down the bottom crust, push down well. Otherwise, just omit the brown sugar. Lastly, I would prepare the filling with the seasonings and refrigerate overnight.

Bill's Sausage Gravy
Kudos to Bill for an AWESOME recipe! About the only thing I did differently was susbstitute bacon fat for butter. I will try it with the butter next time, but for now this will be the ONLY gravy I will make!!

Southern Pulled Pork
For my crock pot, 4 cups of water was WAY too much liquid! As a result, I lost alot of the flavoring with the excess water I had to drain. I concur with some of the other posters here when they say to mix in some BBQ sauce towards the end. Otherwise, this is an EXCELLENT alternative for those who do not have the means with which to properly slow cook pork.
