Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2014
The very first apple pie I made, and it came out delicious. One of my cousins who is not a fan of apple pies already asked me to make it for Christmas!!! I didn't realize the pastry was not part of the recipe, and it was too late to run to the grocery store to get one already made. I had to search online for a while to find one with the ingredients I had at home. Other than that, it was easy to make, and it was absolutely delicious. I did add a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg like some of the reviewers suggested. Just perfect!!!

Brazilian Style Flan (Pudim de Leite Condensado)

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
This is a great recipe, and I make it at almost every gathering and holiday! I do make it a bit differently. You can get air bubbles if the oven temperature is too high or water in water bath is not enough. I like mine very smooth, and my husband likes it with bubbles. So I make it both ways. I do add water to my syrup and sometimes few drops of vanilla too. Once it's cool, I freeze the syrup so it doesn't mix with flan mixture. I blend 1 can of sweet condensed milk, 1 can (I just use can as measurement) of milk and 3 eggs. I don't separate my eggs, and I find that I like 3 eggs instead of 4.

Mom's Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2010
I made this exactly the way the recipe was written, and I was not too impressed. They were very fluffy, but I didn't like they way they tasted. They were a bit salty. I decided to make it again without the salt, and it tasted like there was something missing.

So easy to make and sooo good! I made 3 batches at once, and I used 1 cup white sugar, 1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup confectioner's sugar to 3 cups of peanut butter!

Brazilian White Rice

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
This is pretty much how I make my rice. However, I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil. I also don't rinse my rice because that actually removes the added vitamins. So when I add the rice to the pan, I add just a tablespoon of water to get the same effect as if I had washed the rice. Then I add the rest of the water.

Famous Chicken Francaise

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2010
Like other reviewers suggested, I put the flour before the egg mixture. I didn't have paprika, so I didn't use any. Instead of powder garlic, I used fresh garlic.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
The cookies came out really good. I used half margerine and half unsalted butter. I made sure the butter was very soft. I also a little bit more vanilla as other people had suggested (1 Tablespoon). Easy and very tasty! Definitely a keeper!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
I just finished baking these, and they are great! Just the way I like my chocolate chip cookie: chewy but not mushy or cake-like! I didn't change or altered any of the ingredients; however, I did not sift the dry ingredients because I couldn't find my sifter!

I also used 2 sticks of butter instead of 2 cups of butter. I love the smooth, rich taste.
