About this Cook
Even from childhood I loved to help my grandmother and mom around in the kitchen, doing whatever I could to produce that delicious end result. On vacations from school starting when I was about 12, I read over old cookbooks and picked recipes to try. Now I'm 20 and my cooking skills have grown a lot and I feel like I'm developing into a pretty decent cook. I love to see the smiles and hear the feedback from my family as they taste something I made.
My favorite things to cook
I started out baking pies, cookies and cakes, but as I'm getting a little older I enjoy cooking main entrees and hors d'ouvres for gatherings as well. My boyfriend (and kitchen help) is happy he'll have good meals every night in the future. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
For the last few years at Christmas I've made a candy assortment to give to family members as gifts, as well as sweet potato, pecan and apple pies.
My cooking triumphs
I always get requests for peanut butter balls (my grandma's recipe), sweet potato pies, coconut pies, and caramel apple pork chops.
My cooking tragedies
I have the bad habit of leaving items in the oven for entirely too long, or forgetting to set the timer. I blame my oven! ;)

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak
Really simple and great to make when you don't feel like spending too much time in the kitchen! Searing the steak first really does help keep the pieces from falling apart in the slow cooker, but it isn't necessary. My whole family loves it, and it's certainly a keeper in my house!

Heavenly Shortbread
Very good! I'm not a huge fan of shortbread but my boyfriend is, and he loved these! I enjoyed them, too. I added a teaspoon of vanilla when I made it. They turned out crumbly and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Creamy Kielbasa and Potato Soup
This was great! I tweaked the recipe just a little, though: per another reviewer's response, I used whole milk in the place of the water. Also, I used cream of mushroom soup and boiled the potatoes before adding them to my crockpot to slow cook all morning so it would be ready when we came home from church this afternoon. I added two cans of CREAMED corn and it made the texture oh-so-creamy and nice. I think this is going to become a staple around my house!
