Recently retired from a high-pressure job in the aerospace industry. Love entertaining. Planning parties is a passion of mine. My husband and I have friends over for informal and formal dinners at least once a week. We are lucky enough to have houses in the mountains and the desert and are avid golfers, so we have quite a few weekend guests.
My favorite things to cook
Italian, desserts, hors d'ouevres, Southern cooking (I'm a Paula Deene fan), fish, homemade soups, cookies, cakes, and fairly complicated desserts, specialty items for holidays.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom passed on some amazing hors d'ouevre and soup recipes. I'm big on baking chickens on Sundays.
My cooking triumphs
When I was 19 years old I had my very first dinner party. I had never cooked anything in my life up until that point. My boyfriend at the time pretty much challenged me to do it (and thought I wouldn't be able to handle it). I made everything fresh and from scratch, including a cake recipe my mother gave me. It was a wonderful dinner and started my life-long love of cooking and entertaining.
My cooking tragedies
I had a few failures here and there. I like to "experiment" on my friends, so more often than not I make dishes that I've never tried before. Sometimes they're amazing, sometimes they're not so great. We always have a lot of wine flowing, so no one seems to care! In fact, I think they enjoy trying new things and seeing how they turn out.
