About this Cook
I'm a corsetier by trade, and have seven children aged between 5-21. I have been cooking since I was about 5 years old (for those of you who are curious, that's about 35 years now LOL!). I'm also a vegetarian, singer/songwriter and musician, poet, author, spinner and knitter/knitting designer. I live with 2 of my sons, our 6 cats and 3 insane but loveable chickens (who provide me with the BEST organic/free range eggs for my baking) :)
My favorite things to cook
Almost anything! I particularly love baking, and especially trying to recreate my grandmother's traditional Ukrainian recipes that she refuses to hand down to me (even her own children don't have recipes for what she cooks!) I also love dishes using fresh vegetables and anything with a Mediterranean twist. Making jam, jellies and butters and other similar things is always fun, too :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making pasta with my kids from scratch; paska and eggs dyed with food colouring at Easter (Ukrainian traditions); family dinners with all 8 of us in the kitchen cooking together (this is one case where "too many cooks" doesn't apply - in this case, many hands make light work!) :)
My cooking triumphs
Many, many things I would class as triumphs - but my best work to date has been teaching my 5yo son to cook - he's only small but he's already very accomplished in the kitchen and has a knack for combining flavours :)
My cooking tragedies
No real tragedies to speak of - worst cooking incidents I have had probably involved burning things because I got distracted and forgot to keep an eye on the cooking time or something similar (love those phone calls when I'm cooking LOL!) But my chickens consider my kitchen "tragedies" to be triumphs, because they get to eat them, and they LOVE being able to eat people food (I'm pretty sure they think they are small feathery people!)

Hot Cross Buns I
These are easy, light and really yummy :) I put extra cinnamon and added a little clove, ginger and nutmeg (because we like our hot cross buns tasting of spice) and used sultanas instead of currants (none of my boys like currants lol). Will definitely be making a ton of these for Easter ;)

Easy Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
SO easy and tastes so good that I made 4 batches in the same night and customised the flavours to make vanilla, rum raisin, cookies & cream and peppermint choc chip! This one is now going to be a regular feature in our house - even my 5yo can make it! :) We don't have an ice cream maker so I just froze the mixture in a tub with a lid and stirred it regularly to make sure it didn't crystallise.

White Bread I
I don't have a bread machine so I made the dough by hand and baked it in my oven - this bread is really light and tasty and my son has asked me to make it every day for his sandwiches :D
