I am the mother of seven beautiful children, my oldest is 21, and the youngest in my crew is 8. I have 5 boys and 2 girls, and 3 very picky eaters. I began cooking as a very small child helping my grandmother in the kitchen as she made pies and cookies and have loved doing it all my life.
My favorite things to cook
I love southern cooking, it feeds the soul and the body in a way most don't. It's the epitome of Comfort foods. I am also fond of cooking anything Italian or Mexican.
My favorite family cooking traditions
There are certain foods that my family anticipates and looks forward to being on the table each holiday. We are fairly traditional in the sense that girls cook in the kitchen and the men happily watch the game and wait for the eats to arrive. My children however both male and female have all developed a keen interest in cooking and frequently help out while preparing holiday meals (Which takes about 1 week of cooking)!
My cooking triumphs
Teaching my children to love cooking as much as I do, all seven of my children have an interest in cooking, and most days as I'm preparing dinner for the evenings meal you can find several children crowding around observing, helping, and asking questions, my heart swells every time!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 12 I was to cook rice for our family meal, I asked my dad how much too cook and he said 1 serving per person. My mind translated that to 1 cup of uncooked rice per person, we had 5 people in our family. I filled every pot with rice by the time it was all cooked and was eating rice for breakfast for a long time.
