About this Cook
I'm currently a student at Columbia University; I'll graduate in May 2005 (hopefully) and then I want to go into publishing.
My favorite things to cook
Bread, above all; plus one-pot or all-in-one dishes because they're easy to heat up when I have leftovers (and I always do). The only good thing about winter is that it's soup time, and I love making a good soup to go with bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas for as long as I can remember, my mom and I have baked cookies. She tries out new recipes each year; usually she makes the cookies and I decorate.
My cooking triumphs
Recently I entered an AllRecipes roasted-pumpkin-and-feta risotto into a cooking contest for the western group of dorms here, and I won first place, which got me a mini iPod, so that was great.
My cooking tragedies
I don't think anything that has to do with cooking can be a tragedy, really.

Crusty White Bread
I halved this recipe but had to add lots of flour (probably a cup or more). It was still kind of sticky when I set it to rise the first time, but it expanded splendidly. Crisp crust as promised, and very very tasty.

Roast Pumpkin and Feta Risotto
A winner -- literally! I'm a college student and my dorm sponsored a cooking contest for dishes using fresh pumpkin, so I entered this one, and I won 1st prize, a mini iPod! I roasted baby pumpkin halves and served the risotto in them, which made for a great presentation. Delicious (though time-consuming).

Dark and Sweet Rye Bread
Delicious. I cut the recipe in half and made one large loaf instead of 2 round ones, and it was perfect.
