It's all Greek to me!

Greek Easter
Apr. 2, 2011 11:45 am
This year Greek Orthodox Easter falls on the same day as Easter, which is always nice.  I'm looking forward to April 24th this year, for all obvious religious reasons but the preparation and cooking really rings my bells!

I already purchased the leg of lamb, which I plan to roast with all those wonderful Greek spices on the grill rotisserie.  I'll put a drip pan under the lamb so I can capture the juices which will be used for the oven browned potatoes.  Add a big Greek salad/dressing, some homemade pita bread/tsaziki sauce, a homemade Easter Bread Braid and some scrumptous Greek desserts and I'll be all set. I'll probably make spanakopita as well-everyone always wants that. This year our neighbors are joining us for this celebration meal as our grown kids and grands live on the east coast; a little too far for travel.  If I knew more people in our neighborhood I would have dug a hole in the back yard, made a nice grill pit and roasted the whole lamb like my grandparents/parents did when I was young.  I always looked forward to that day and still do!

What are your plans for Easter dinner this year?

About Me
Now that the children are grown up, I can try more adventurous recipes & ingredients without having to worry if the kids will like it! My husband and I are no longer in a rut with nightly meals and we enjoy trying different recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Of course I like to bake all kinds of goodies, but I especially like to entertain and cook wonderful appetizers and entrees for our guests.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Anything Greek-since I am Greek and my Yia Yia taught me how to cook Greek food from the young age of 7. Happily, my husband has acquired a taste for Greek food!
My cooking triumphs
If it's edible and yummy, it's a triumph!!! I like to both bake and cook.
My cooking tragedies
Now that I'm semi-retired, I have more time to spend in the kitchen and I've found I can focus more on my cooking skills! Husband really appreciates all the new dishes I've been making from AR!
