Caramel Frosting IV

This is wayyyyyyy... too sweet! I even paired it with a not-very sweet espresso cupcake and it was still too much. Like a previous reviewer mentioned though, the caramel part would be great over ice cream! Despite the too sweetness of it I think the taste is good and very caramelly. Perhaps if used as a VERY thin layer in the center of a layer cake it might be good, as long as the frosting on the outside is not overly sweet.

Viennese Crescent Holiday Cookies

I ran out of hazelnuts and substituted 1/2 the amount of pecans. I dipped half of the batch in dark chocolate. Great either way!

I followed the advise of other reviewers and upped th spice and thse turned out wonderfully! Out of the 20 recipes I baked between Nov and Dec this year, this was my favorite!!!! I will be making thse for many years to come.

Perfect pancakes! BUT if there are more than 2 of you eating, double or triple the recipe because they go fast and I only got 5 decent sized cakes out of one batch.

Chocolate Trifle

Though I found this recipe to be a bit too sweet, it was a hit at one of our holiday meals this year. Next time I will use more brownie and overcook it a bit and less cool whip. I topped it with chunks of snickers. At a dinner where the hostess apparently asked everyone to bring dessert, this was the number one choice for everyone.

Apple Crisp II

This recipe was just ok. I always like to try and stick to the original the first time I make somthing (unless reviews are consistently pointing out one mistake). I should have listened to those who decreased the water. The apples were way too soggy for my liking. The topping was not oaty enough and it it was overly sweet. I will keep the recipe though as it it a good jumping off point to alter.

Maple Icing

My husband wanted "something different" for Christmas dessert this year. He requested a pumpkin cake with maple icing. As odd as this sounds it turned out great. I used the pumpkin cake recipe from this site but substituted maple flavoring for most of the vanilla and used this icing (but I used more of the maple flavor than the recipe called for). It turned out very nice. It is a keeper! Has me thinking about what else it might taste good with? Pancake cupcakes anyone?

Chocolate Pretzels

I opted to make these for my son's school holiday party because I figured they would be easier and less time consuming than baking cookies. But I think I should have stuck to cookies. I, like many others was disappointed to find no round pretzels in store after store (did not have time to order online). I was delighted to finally find round butter waffle ones at last. I started out with a mixed batch of milk and dark. The dark turned out beautifully but the milk seemed to not be soft enough so I put them back in and, like other reviewers, burnt them. I tried another batch of milk by themselves but no matter how long I left them in the end result was ugly (compared to the dark). The end result was a pretty big mess in my kitchen (something I was hoping I would avoid with this seemingly quick and easy recipe) and some pretty and yummy dark chocolate buttons. To do it again I would order the round pretzels online and only use dark chocolate kisses.

Soft Chocolate Cookies

I brought these to my family's Thanksgiving and they were a hit. This is a BIG deal... my brother is famous for his chocolate chip cookies and these went before his! Oh, I added dark chocolate morsels (not semi sweet).

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

I doubled the broth and carrots (I love carrots in soup). I kept everything else the same. It turned out good but next time I think I will try ground sirloin and season the meat well. Overall, this is a really good basic recipe to build on to suit individual tastes and preferences.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Delish! I paired them with the chocolate fudge buttercream made with hot fudge on this site. I made little tiny chocolate chip cookies to garnish. The first time I made thses I made the cookie dough too small. The second time I made them just over an inch and it was a perfect ratio! I now keep frozen cookie dough balls in my freezer just in case. I cut up small squares of plastic wrap and wrapped each ball then put the wrapped balls in a freezer bag. They keep well for more than a month at least.

These were soooooo... easy and yummy! I am going to need to experiment with the appearance as they tasted much better than they looked. Maybe placing some candied pecans on top half way through cooking?
