Indian Chicken Curry II

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2010
This was SO good. I'll definitely make this again! I added red and orange pepper for freshness, colour and taste. Don't skip the lemon and cayenne pepper at the end - so important for the overall taste! YUM :)

Curried Turkey

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
It's a great comfort food meal - but I agree with the rest, needs more curry! I used Granny Smith Apples with the peels on and they really kept their own flavour - I don't think the apples complemented the curry as well as they could have. Really don't know that the turkey/apples/curry matched eachother as well as they could have. Perhaps adding some cinnamon/cardamom/ginger to the curry would bring the flavours together a little more?

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
So easy and so loved by all my co-workers at the St Paddy's Day Irish Potluck we had! I think it tasted like a big buttermilk scone. Went REALLY well with the stew. I made sure to make the round a little flatter than pictured as the reviews said it would bake more evenly and it did! I think I took it out of the oven a little earlier than directed. But it went well.

Orange Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
LOVED by all at my Family Christmas Party. Garnished with Blueberries to contrast with the orange flavour. Would do a higher ratio of chocolate to cheesecake mixture, but I don't think I followed the recipe to a T the first time on that front. Needs more orange flavour! Will definitely make again!!

Ginger-Orange Squash

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2011
Really good and really easy. I brought it to a family-dinner and they loved it. I'm not a personal fan of the texture, but that's just the squash in general. The taste is marvelous!

Spicy African Yam Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
Interesting AND good!! I'm on my second bowl right now! I forgot to dice the sweet potato and did small cubes instead. Probably would have liked it a little more if I had diced them.

Apple Squares

Tasted good - though I should have read the reviews first. Will double the recipe and add more apple for moistness.

Slow Cooker Stuffing

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2011
SO good! I was eating it out of the bowl after I had tossed the onions/butter/spices/bread together! Prepare all the night before and toss in the egg and broth the next morning and turn on the slow cooker! I definitely plan to make this again!

Pumpkin Ginger Cupcakes

VERY GOOD!! I brought 2 dozen to a family thanksgiving dinner and the whole tray was demolished! So great with cream cheese icing. Good texture/moisture. Used a can of pumpkin pie filling. So good!

Healing Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
It seems like a good base for what could be a great soup. I read a lot of reviews that say it tastes even better the next day and I'm looking forward to that. I used canned chopped tomatoes and added the juice in (didn't want to waste it) and I'm glad I did, it definitely added to what would otherwise be a relatively plain broth. I think it's lacking in some dimension ... perhaps more veggies or another spice). That being said ... I'm sitting on my couch, wrapped in a blanket eating/drinking this soup with a box of tissues next to me and I already feel like it's giving my cold a run for it's money! I'm not tossing this soup out!

Slow Cooker Lentil and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
Dee-lish. I'm thinking this is around a 3.7 for what it is: a hearty bowl of goodness after a long and cold day's work. Due to my schedule, it cooked a little longer than 11 hours and the lentils had completely lost their shape (not sure if they were supposed to). This is a good introduction to a lentil based soup (for someone (me) who thought lentils were tasteless beans ... which they're not). This is a great base for any direction you want to go! I'll likely make this again in the winter this year :)

Harissa

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
I've never eaten Harissa before but need it for a number of recipes in a new cookbook I received for Christmas. I couldn't find the product ANYwhere, so I made it myself. It's pretty good! I don't know my way around hot peppers, but all I could find were Scotch Bonnet Peppers (my fingers still burn a little from chopping them up)! I also made the mistake of adding the full 1/2 cup of olive oil to the mix ... so the texture is obviously more fluid than a paste. In any case, I've made the first recipe that uses it and it tastes fantastic as the main source of flavour (with garlic). Oh, it also did not turn out red. More of a green ... perhaps because the ratio was off when I added all the olive oil?

Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Pistachios

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
I liked this recipe! It tastes better than it smells though - I brought it to a potluck and the whole car had this odd smell, took us a minute to figure out what it was! Honestly, I really liked it but the bowl wasn't exactly scraped clean at the family party, which I think is just because people just don't trust brussel sprouts!!

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
So good! I didn't add the full measure of sugar, and every time will add less and less sugar to see how little I can get away with and still have it taste as good!

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
Fantastic! The only things I didn't add were the walnuts and raisins. I put 1/2 pecans on top for decoration though. Yum! I wasn't keen on pouring in 3/4 cups oil and 1 1/2 cups white sugar so I may try this again with applesauce instead of oil and swap out some of the sugar for other less-refined sweeteners. But wow - the moisture content was great and the sweetness too. Mmmmm. Will definitely make again!!

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2012
Really good! I didn't have wheat germ so I put in ground flax instead. I might try this one again subbing out the sugars for other sweeteners and an oil alternative and see how it turns out!

Pretty good. Maybe my dijon was a little strong as it really overpowered the salmon but it was still good!

Almond Maple Granola

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2012
I will definitely be making this again! Great with yogurt or milk in the morning! I didn't have sunflower seeds or the full amount of almonds so I did almonds, walnuts and pecans. On my second time around, I used coconut oil instead of veggie oil and it was good! And I think much healthier :)
