Chicken a la King I

I had never made Chicken a la King before .... this was an easy recipe and was very good. I took a hint from a another comment and left out the green pepper and added peas. Will definitely make it again. I served it over biscuits. (I also started with raw chicken breasts and simmered them the 1 1/4 cup water with some onion and seasoning salt and then used that liquid in the recipe)

Bacon Gravy for Biscuits

I admit that the first time I heard of this was when I was dating my husband, who grew up in Michigan but with southern roots, I thought he was CRAZY. I tried and tried to make it for him, without success, until one of his cousins, as a joke (making fun of this northerner) sent me an audio tape (it was 1972) but as he went step by step, for the first time it all made sense. I drain all but 2 - 3 T of the bacon grease and add about equal amounts of flour. Stir it to a smooth paste (I like to let mine just start to get a very light tan color) long enough to cook the "raw" taste out of the flour. (if you don't have quite enough bacon grease, for the times I use the saved grease .... I stir in just a bit of butter) Add the milk slowly, while stirring, and let it cook to thicken. If it gets too thick... stir in a little more milk ... if it is too thin, just cook it a little longer while stirring. It takes a little practice, and gets to be easier as you just learn the "feel" for it! I said I thought he was crazy???? It didn't take me long to fight him for my fair share!!! Now I am hungry... off to make some eggs and gravy!!!

Cherry Pie Filling

someone gave me cherries this weekend .... it is way to hot to be baking, so I decided to make the filling now and bake later. This filling is wonderful..... It tastes so good I wonder if I will even get a pie, what I don't just eat with a spoon may go over ice cream or on waffles!!! (and I doubled the recipe)

Movie Star Popcorn

I made popcorn on the stove for my grand daughters and they were fascinated!! They wanted some of the cheese flavoring sprinkled on top, but I didn't have any.. so instead decided to try sprinkling the popcorn with some Cinnamon/sugar and it was a real HIT. Can't beat the sweet and salty combo!!

Pancake Stack with Syrup

I have used a similar recipe for years, and at one time I did use 3 tsp baking powder...up from the 1 tsp called for....then someone reminded me to check the date on by baking powder. Sure enough, that made the difference!!!! Homemade are always yummier!!!!
