About this Cook
I love to cook. I hate to do dishes.
My favorite things to cook
Anything Mexican or Tex-Mex, Italian, slow cooker meals and casseroles.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom always made the best Thanksgiving & Christmas meals. I guess everybody's Mom does =D I just remember Mom, my brother, and I elbow-to-elbow in the kitchen for hours talking, measuring, stirring, laughing, washing dishes, and tasting. Good times.
My cooking triumphs
I made cinnamon toast one time for my aunt - just bread, butter, sugar, and cinnamon - and she bragged on it like it was the most complicated pastry on earth. It made my day. She has since passed on but she mentioned it every time I saw her and told anybody within earshot how good it was. Of course I think of her every time I make it now =D
My cooking tragedies
The most dramatic one would be the time I exploded a summer sausage in the microwave. Lesson learned: poke holes in it!

Dill Pickle Meatloaf
This is a good meatloaf but we couldn't taste any pickle flavor.. and I doubled the amount (from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup). I would've thought that the pickles were weak or something but they tasted pickly enough straight out of the jar. No complaint about anything else.... Will keep around as a basic meatloaf recipe to add ingredients to.
