Creamy Black Bean Dip

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
Just made this prior to the superbowl game and it is not good! The vinegar and ketchup make it sour and sweet, just not the way I personally think black bean dip should taste.

Camp Cornbread

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2010
I made this once for dinner and my boyfriend loved it; and he doesn't have a particular preference for cornbread! I also really enjoyed it. It is very moist and not at all dry like normal cornbread. I reduced the sugar to 1/4 C as it was already sweet with the cream corn and it was perfect this way. I also baked it more like 35-40 minutes becuase it seemed a little too soft at 30 minutes. I made homemade honey butter to go on top of it and served it with spicy homemade wings I had made and it was a great combination! You should really try this recipe!!

Zesty Dip for Chips

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2010
I made this for company the other day and it was the only thing that did not get eaten up. I only used half the amount of Italian dressing and it was still just too tangy/sour. Also, it seemed the lack something (maybe beans?) and the green chilies were just too much. I was really hoping to like this recipes but just didn't. It was just odd. If you are looking for a good dip I would try something with an olive oil base with added vinegar for a kick. There is a great recipe on this website if you look up "black bean salsa" that has these ingredients in it and it just tastes better but is comparable to this recipe as far as some of the ingredients. I will not be making this particular recipe again.

Honey Wheat Bread III

Reviewed: May 15, 2010
I just made this today and it is great!! I followed the directions exactly, but used buttermilk in place of regular milk and used all wheat flour because I don't like to use white flour. It is very dense but great. Also, due to all of the wheat flour it did not rise a lot but that was ok for us! My boyfriend said it tasted just like his mom used to make and he ate practically half the loaf already!

This is the best recipe for cream cheese frosting!! I have also added a little peppermint extract to the frosting at times and it tasted great on chocolate cookies!!

Chicken Scampi

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2010
I added red pepper flakes to the chicken as well as some lemon pepper seasoning. I added the onion at the beginning as directed and this turned out great! I also used canned tomatoes and put Romano cheese on top before serving. I used whole wheat spaghetti and this recipe was so delicious! I think that I used a little more of most spices than it called for and it turned out great. My boyfriend (who I have made many meals for) said this was one of the best things I have ever made, and he doesn't even care for pasta that much!!

Zulandt's Lentil Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
This is my favorite recipe ever!! Lentils and rice are boring to many people, but to me this recipes meets all of my criteria: cheap, healthy and it tastes great! I do not add the zucchini and I use chicken bouillon instead of vegetable. Additionally, I add about 4 minced garlic cloves to the sauted onion and I some cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes while the lentils are cooking. I also use italian seasoning instead of the oregano and add a little extra cumin. I also only add about half the amount of bread crumbs to the top. The cheese can be reduced to make it a healthier meal and it still tastes great! With these changes this recipes is my favorite!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This soup was great! I added an avocado, cilantro and homemade corn tortilla chips to each bowl and it was 5 stars with these additions. The soup itself was good, but needed a little more spice. I added 2 tsp cumin and 2 tsp garlic powder, in addition to the taco seasoning, and this made it much better! I also omitted the beer and used 8 oz chicken broth.

Sausage Barley Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2009
I made this for dinner tonight and my boyfriend and I loved it! I added one can crushed tomatoes, used two onions instead of one and added double the Italian seasoning. I also added one can of great northern beans and used spicy Italian sausage. I put everything in the crock pot for 6 hours and it turned out great!
