Two grown kids, and a husband of 32 years who has, in the past two years, turned into a pretty terrific chef! So I don't do much of the cooking anymore - I get to be served (and then do the clean up!)
My favorite things to cook
I've always enjoyed baking. I enjoy trying new recipes of any sort, so no real favorites - I enjoy it all.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Now that the kids are grown, it's fun to hear them talk about what they consider our traditions: Cornbread stuffing, Wassail and a French Silk Chocolate Pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas, Zucchini casserole every chance they get, Boston Cream Pie for birthdays, Dad making pancakes (from scratch) on Saturday mornings.
My cooking triumphs
Won a blue ribbon long ago for a Black Forest Cherry Torte! Thank goodness, since that recipe took 5 hours to assemble!
My cooking tragedies
As a newlywed, made a casserole for my visiting mother-in-law in one of my wedding gift Corningware casseroles. Took it out of the oven and immediately dropped in on the floor - sending Texas Hash and shards of Corningware everywhere! My sweet mother-in-law helped me clean it up and took us out to dinner...

Old Lady Cleveland's Gooey Bars
I also used butter instead of margarine - and I used less powdered sugar. I was searching for this recipe because we used to make it all the time but I couldn't find mine and I couldn't remember how many eggs. We've never used pecans, so I didn't today, but perhaps next time! Our family and friends love this gooey bar - as do starving, homesick college kids and now starving, overwhelmed med school students!!!

Dilly-Of-A-Baked Potato Salad
