One earthquake plus hurricane to go!

We've had WAY too much excitement here lately in Northern Virginia.  First, we had an earthquake (5.9) last Tuesday, then this past weekend storms and loads of rain, courtesy of Hurricane Irene.  My son insisted on all of us staying at my mom's for the weekend, which in itself was stressful.  However, now things are back to what passes for normal.  And my husband, Marcus, is scheduled to arrive December 15th! YAY!

Now to recent food adventures:  I made my first vegan pot pie last night.  I was in the mood for comfort food, and I found<  which I doubled for the crust (I like a thick crust).  I used Earth Balance spread plus flour to make the roux, and added onions (finely diced) and frozen mixed vegetables to make the insides - with vegan vegetable broth and a bit of unflavored soy milk.  My "recipe" is based on one I used to use from an old paperback Fannie Farmer cookbook I used to have.  It turned out AMAZING.  I baked it for 45 minutes, and took it out - the crust was positively perfect (for me, at least).  I will have to post the recipe (as close as I can remember it) and hope others get good results.

I'm a retired Navy musician. I play piano for my church on Sundays. and give clarinet lessons Saturdays. Weekdays, I work for the USMC. I have four children, two girls and twin boys. Butternut Squash with pasta and sage is something I was surprised to find my kids like. They also liked vegan colcannon, although they added mayonnaise to it.
My cooking tragedies
I've blown up an egg in the microwave - more than once.
