Joan's Famous Mondel Brodt

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
I have one big problem with this recipe: I CAN'T STOP EATING IT. I made it for gifts for the holidays and I've had to make several batches so I have enough to give after nibbling on them. It's wonderful, easy, and easily modified (you can "play with" the extracts, add raisins and/or other dried fruits and/or different nuts. After making about 6 batches, I think my favorite modification is changing the walnuts to pecans and using a combination of vanilla, almond, and orange extracts (keeping the total at 2 tsp). I also added some dried sweetened cranberries and dried cherries to give at Christmas (yes, it's a little odd to give Jewish cookies for Christmas gifts, but they were a hit and look festive with the additional red color). These are probably the easiest mondel brodt I've ever made... almost like my grandma's, but with much less effort! I like that they aren't overly sweet. They are a perfect accompaniment to coffee. They look and taste a lot more impressive than the effort they take to make. Thank you, Joan!

Linda's Awesome Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
I made these twice. The first time I agreed with some other reviewers who thought they weren't chocolate-y or fudgy enough. The only change I made when I made them the second time was to decrease the amount of flour from 1 1/2 cups to just 1 Cup. It did the trick!

Blueberry Cornmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
I followed the recipe EXACTLY, from every ingredient to the cooking time, and they were amazing, attractive, and unique. They are so easy to make, too. I will be repeating these often. I was a little worried about adding a whole Tablespoon of baking powder, worried they might taste bitter, but they weren't. They were divine. Not too sweet, either. I liked the amount of blueberries as I think it kept the flavors all subtle and complimenting each other rather than overpowering. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Aunt Blanche's Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
The flavor wasn't bad at all, but I had trouble with these. I cooked them quite a bit longer than the recipe and they still looked raw on bottom although they were nicely browned on top. I didn't use muffin liners, but generously greased and floured muffin tins. Still they didn't come out of the pan easily and almost all broke apart although I cooled them. I wanted to like them, but was disappointed, although flavor still good. I will try another blueberry muffin recipe.
