The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
As some other reviewers, I had also been looking for a good sugar cookie recipe my whole life. I've now found it. With just a few minor adjustments. I added 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla instead of just the 1 teaspoon. And I added a 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg when I added the other dry ingredients. The flavor of the cookies is perfect to me this way. I can't imagine adding another cup of sugar as some reviewers suggested. That would make the cookies way to sweet for me. I think that they are definitely sweet enough already. I also beat an egg in a bowl and then used a pastry brush to paint a very thin layer of egg on top of each cookie. Then I covered them in sprinkles. The egg helps to hold on the sprinkles and you can't taste the egg. The dough was very easy to work with once I chilled it over night in the refrigerator. The part about these cookies that I was most impressed with was the way that they baked. They did not lose their shape at all. Even when I had bought refrigerated sugar cookie dough in the past they always lost their shape. These cookies will not. They do not puff up like other sugar cookies. I am done looking for the perfect sugar cookie recipe because now I've found it. It's quite a relief actually. Now I have the perfect recipe to use for all of the holidays.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2010
I made this tonight for the first time. I made it exactly as the recipe said to except instead of measuring out the garlic powder and seasoning salt I just sprinkled those onto the pork chops straight out of their containers. My whole family really liked the pork chops. Even my very picky kids liked it. I was a little worried about the length of cooking time in the oven because the pork chops that I used were boneless and thin. However I followed the exact amount of cooking time of 1 and a 1/2 hours and I was surprised to find that the pork chops came out very tender. I cut them with my fork. No knife needed. The sauce was good. This is exactly the kind of pork chop recipe I've been looking for.

Baked Potato

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2010
My potatoes turned out perfectly. I took another reviewers advice and rubbed olive oil on them and rolled them in kosher salt before putting them in the oven. Otherwise I followed the directions exactly. Thanks for the baked potato recipe!

Linda's Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2010
I have looked for a good lasagna recipe for years. I've tried all kinds of recipes, ones that use cottage cheese and ones that use ricotta. I love this lasagna recipe. But most importantly my kids love it. My kids are very picky. I usually have to keep reminding them to eat their food during dinner time. I was very surprised to see how fast they ate this lasagna and I didn't have to remind them once to eat it. I really liked the sauce. I think it has a really good flavor. For me the sauce is what makes a good lasagna. I thought that the lasagna held together really well when I cut pieces and scooped it out of the pan. I'm guessing that is because withought it being covered with foil during cooking it dries out a little. Altough it was good this way I tend to like a lasagna that is a little juicier. Next time I may sprinkle the cheese on top of the lasagna and cover it with foil before baking it for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake uncovered for the last 15 minutes. Thank you for ending my long search for the perfect lasagna recipe. I've now found it!

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
I got this same recipe from my mother in law a few years ago. This is my kids' favorite pie. This recipe is exactly the same as the one from my mother in law except for one step. Instead of mixing the milk, pudding, pumpkin and spices together all at once my version calls for mixing the milk and pudding together first. Beat with wire wisk for 2 minutes. Then let it stand for 3 minutes. Now add the pumkin and spices, mixing well. I've never had a problem with my pie being runny as some other reviewers complained about. Changing this step may solve that problem.

Oatmeal Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
This is the perfect oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe. I've tried many over the years. Now I can stop looking. I don't think anything needs to be changed on this recipe but per my own preference I only added 1 cup of chocolate chips. Each cookie still ends up with 4-5 chocolate chips in it. That's just the way I prefer my cookies. The cookies tasted great right out of the oven. 11 minutes was the perfect bake time for mine. They also tasted great the next day. Thanks for sharing your great recipe!

Gooey Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2011
I just made these cookies for the first time. They are very delicious! They're so easy to make. I read the reviews before making these and it seemed like there were a lot of complaints about the dough being hard to work with because it's sticky. A lot of reviewers mentioned refrigerating the dough before forming into balls. I made the cookie dough and yes it's pretty sticky. I put it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. When I took it out it was still sticky. I scooped out the dough with my cookie scooper (it looks like a mini ice cream scooper) and dropped the dough balls from the scooper straight into the powdered sugar. The dough scooped up well and came out of the cookie scooper easily. Once the cookie dough balls got coated with the powdered sugar they were no longer sticky. I made the recipe exactly as directed (aside from refrigerating). I wouldn't change anything. These are very good as is. This is definitely a keeper for my family. Everyone loved them! Thanks for sharing!!!

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2012
I thought that this cake had way to much liquid. My husband and kids thought the same. We also thought it was to sweet. I think the over sweetness came from the whipped cream topping. 1 cup sugar is to much for 1 1/2 cups whipping cream. The whipped cream did not turn out fluffy like I'm used to seeing when I make whipped cream. It thickened but it was heavy. My kids always lick the bowl clean after I make whipped cream in it. But this whipped cream was so sickenly sweet that they didn't want to lick the bowl this time. I thought the cake by itself turned out great. I wouldn't change that part of this recipe. If I make this again I will make the filling the same but just not pour all of it over the cake. It tasted good but the cake was to soggy. For the whipped cream topping I will instead make it with 1 pint whipping cream, 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla. I've used this whipped cream recipe before for other cakes and it always turns out good. Just the right amount of sweetness.

Homemade Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2010
Wow, this is one salty lasagna! I'm considered a salt-aholic. So when I saw that the only thing that reviewers really complained about was that this was to salty, I thought this is the lasagna for me. Nothing is ever to salty for me. Well, this was! I had a hard time eating it. But I ate it because I spent a lot of time making it. Besides being salty I don't think that the lasagna really had much other flavor to it. The only good thing that I can say about this recipe is that it held together really well. I made the recipe exactly as it said to without making any changes. I used the cottage cheese just like the recipe called for. I won't be making this again. I will keep looking.
