I was surprised to find there was no recipe for ham, cabbage, and potatoes on AllRecipe. This is so easy to make and tastes great. my mom taught this to me when I was very young. She was from Pennsylvania, And had cooked many Pennsylvania dutch recipes so maybe that's where it came from. We normally have this after we bake a ham for dinner, and use the bones and left over meat. I have even cooked this in a slow cooker. You may need to cook the cabbage longer in the slow cooker however. You can adjust the time that you cook the cabbage to your desired firmness.

a great combo of ingredients. it seems the recipes ( comfort food ) we just take for granted. by that, i mean, you think everyone does it. i guess it's a regional thing. i would use collards with pig butt and taters in a soup. but cabbage is great to!

That would have been the way my family cooked it too, but we called it a New England Boiled dinner.

I just read that, I am part Irish so maybe that is where my family got it.

We called it New Englad Boiled Dinner too. Made it with a daisy ham, the kind of loaf shaped butt ham in the red plastic wrapper, or a corned beef. Always with carrots, onions and potatoes, usually with cabbage too. On the side, yellow mustard mixed with horseradish. I am 1/2 Irish too. Top o' the mornin' to ya.
