Goulash - American Style

Originating in Hungary, Goulash is a soup or stew of meat, noodles and vegetables (especially potatoes), seasoned with paprika, and other spices. It is one of Hungary's national dishes. Here in America Goulash is cooked totally different than it's Hungarian counterpart. This is my moms recipe that my wife has cooked for the past 35 years. It does not have potatoes or paprika like they cook it in Hungary, but if you wanted to you can add it. I have had it both ways. I have seen this also made with garlic on the show "The Chew"

I grew up eating goulash, American style! Sometimes I would think that must be all my mom knew how to make. She made hers slightly different, though. She didn't use any beefstock, so hers was a little thicker. I doubt she added any spices or seasonings other than salt and pepper. When she made it, she made enough for 3 or 4 meals.

We were served a lot of goulash growing up too. My mom usually made it with egg noodles. Always one of my favorite things my mom would make. Your pictures look scrumptous!

We love goulash! We always had beans in ours and cheese. A "fast" goulash I used to make when the kids were little . . .box of mac & cheese, 1 can stewed toms and 1 can of beans. These days I don't buy boxed mac and cheese or canned beans. But I still make goulash :)
