Growing up in new jersey one of the things we teens ate was pizza on the Boardwalk, And A Philly Cheese Steak. Since I can't reproduce a Philly Cheese steak here in North Carolina this is as close as I can get.

For two of the original Philly Cheesesteaks you would need to go to Philly to "Pat's King Of Steaks" or "Genos", and both are very good.

It is best to use a high quality Hoagie roll, but you can substitute a french or sub roll. In Philly, and New Jersey, Amoroso rolls are normally used. I have found that Sam's actually has a decent sub roll that can be used.

Depending on where you get your Steak Hoagie you can have a few cheeses to choose from to go with it. Some people use American Cheese like (Kraft Singles), Velveeta, Cheez Whiz, Provolone And mozzarella. Where I got mine they always used Provolone or Mozzarella..

Please no lettuce, Or tomatoes, that's not a Philly cheese steak, if you do add them it is called a Hog Island sandwich, that sandwich originated at a submarine base near Philly, PA during WWII.

King, your pics look great... my mouth is watering after a so-so dinner! I'll have to look deeper into this recipe! I've only had them with peppers/onions... don't know what that might be called, but here in the desert, it's a "philly." Keep the yummies coming!

Well A Philly Cheese Steak is Rib Eye Steak, Sliced Thin, then chopped on the grill (At Most Places), And you have an option Wit Or Wit-Out meaning fried sliced onions, with or without. they then put the cheese on top, And melt it, Then scoop it all up, And put it on an Amoroso hoagie roll. when You get peppers on it, they call it A Pepper Steak. Jersey mikes serves a Philly cheese with onions and sweet peppers but I don't know any place that serves it like that but them. note that they have no stores in Philly, and none in south jersey. In jersey most of there stores are located around a town called "Brick" that is in north jersey. Jersey mikes rolls are also not traditional hoagie rolls.
