Fried Green Tomatoes - The End Of A Garden

this morning it was so nice outside I opened up all the windows, It is only getting to 63F today. That is my kind of weather, and headed for the great outdoors (My yard).

I got a project going on, every day I go out and pick up about 5 buckets of rock I put down Next to my drive way 16 years ago. You see I keep hitting rocks every time I mow the lawn. So after I got done I walked around the yard with absolutely no purpose in hand. I looked at my pear, apple, peach, and plumb trees. When I got around to my poor garden I shook my head.

I walked over to the tomato plants and they just look so horrible, so I yanked them all out of the ground, but not before pulling off all the green tomatoes that never seem to get ripe, (at least not for the last month).

So I brought them in the house there fate is certain, This is lunch.

I have never had fried green tomatoes. Guess I should try them someday, huh??

You know, I grew up in "The South" and never had these. Of course, when I was younger, I didn't much care for tomatoes of any kind (other than in a bottle), but now I find myself quite curious about fried green tomatoes. My wife says she loves them. Sadly, it is nearly impossible to properly care for a garden in AZ when you have a busy life and three kids, so finding green tomatoes in a store is challenging to say the least. I think if I can find some though, I may treat my wife and myself to some!

My wife loves them, I never wanted to try them because they did not quite sound right. but a few years ago I finally had some from our garden, and I had to admit it was really good.

I love, love, love me some fried green tomatoes. We've been frying up the ones in our garden that never ripened. YUM King, just YUM!!!

Let us know if you channel Jane Fonda (movie = Fried Green Tomatoes --think she starred in it) and how was the hamburger helper?

Kathy Bates starred in the movie. And I love fried green tomatoes! One of the reasons I actually bother to grow the durn things. :)

Funny that we all seem to equate "friend green tom's" with the movie... Yes, it was Kathy Bates, but frankly, I believe Jessica Tandy steals the entire show! MasterGrill, I gave up on even flowers in the summer... Phx heat is just too intense! I just a week ago planted some lettuce, parsnip and cuke seeds on my side patio (in planters.) Hope that I can at least get some green - if the birds/bugs will leave it all alone! King... keep up the good work, and I agree about a boxed "skillet meal," I can make my own (healthier and tastier) almost as easy... but I'm retired and no kids.... cept the animals!

Never tried fried green tomatoes! Do you just do them plain in oil or do you do some kind of breadcrumb? Looks good!

I fry them in Butter, but you can bread them too I seen it both ways. When I was younger I would have opted for breaded, but as I have gotten older I have been eating less breaded foods.

Looks delicious! I may be joining you. Just picked more green tomatoes from my garden, and a few ripe ones. Here in IN, that's a miracle. I covered the plants, which extended their time. Plan on wrapping some unblemished ones and letting them ripen in the garage. Thanks for sharing.
