About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy baking various goodies, from cookies to cakes and everything in between. Despite my love for sweets, I also enjoy cooking somewhat healthy, mostly hearty, meals for my family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make good food. :) The only downside is the need to try everything that everyone cooks, especially at parties. We wind up in a food coma by the end of the holidays.
My cooking tragedies
For my fifth chocolate dream pie, I didn't have any pudding mix, so I decided to make home-made pudding. I thought the pudding was cool enough and began mixing it in whith the whipped topping... and it all melted and became one giant, soupy mess. I froze it, and it came out more as a fudge-sickle pie than anything else. My family still loved it, but it had to be eaten frozen and by hand.

Doggie Birthday Cake
I made this cake just as a treat for my dogs yesterday (February 14), and to celebrate our only female dog's birthday. They loved it! We have small dogs with sensitive stomachs, and I was a little concerned that it might upset their bellies, but, not only did they all inhale it, but managed to keep it down! It made them really thirsty, but I was really pleased how this recipe turned out. Even our finicky Shih Tzu loved it!

Cinnamon Hazelnut Biscotti
I've made this recipe twice, once for my family, and the other for a party. Everyone has loved it, even without anything to dip it in. I drizzle with white chocolate or leave plain. My second batch, I boiled, peeled, chopped, and then honey roasted my hazelnuts. Although time consuming, the result was spectacular.
