A few years back, in conversation with a truly gifted man, I told him that I was an interior designer.  His eyebrows went up, and a light came onto his face, and he exclaimed, "The home is a metaphor for a woman's soul!"  That comment stayed with me and percolated through my thoughts for many… MORE

The Allstars have been asked to blog about Mazola this month, and it kind of made me remember some things.... My father-in-law was born into a tiny farm community in western Kentucky, where most folks raised their own food, made their own clothes, wore shoes in the winter and went barefoot in… MORE

Yes, for real.  Today I prepared bison bacon.  I have enjoyed bison burgers a time or two, and I was very happy to learn that bison is much lower in fat than beef, but I didn't know it could be made into bacon.  You can check out the nutrition information on this site.  It is sliced thinly,… MORE

I heard from a dietician just a couple of weeks ago that beef should be limited when following a "heart healthy" diet.  I was a little surprised by this, because I know that beef is a great source for many important nutrients.  I believe that one should use moderation in all things, and I… MORE

Some of you may remember the financial downturn of the nineties that rattled the savings and loan institutions.  Those shock waves shook my husband out of his job and rattled my world.  For six months he tried to find another job, and things were looking grim.  Then one day, he answered an ad… MORE

When I was about 17, and “having a moment” with my mother, she made a comment that became permanently etched in my brain.  I said something about marriage that beautifully reflected teen-aged inanity, and she said (emphasizing every word with a jab of her right forefinger into my chest), “You… MORE

Nah.  It was neither.  And this isn't Dickens, either!  I had a feeling, early on, that Thanksgiving was going to be sort of anti-climactic, and it was.  I decorated the house in a harvest theme back in October, trying my best to "Respect the Bird".  The warm colors of the decorations really… MORE

My children are grown now, and my only granddaughter lives in another state, so my Halloween celebrations have dwindled down to nothing!  However, the urge to entertain rises in my soul this time of year, and yesterday, I chose not to ignore it!  We usually have a group of church friends in… MORE

Well, we're at it again!  Allrecipes has asked that we try to create a new recipe using a sponsor's product.  I wasn't too excited about this task, because I'd much rather try a recipe someone else has created.  You see, another cook has to do the experimenting, and I won't have to throw away… MORE

About Me
My cooking experiences began in the 4th grade Conservation Club. Cooking and Sewing were classes for girls, and my mom agreed to teach them for me and a couple of friends. We began with a blond brownie sort of dessert. After I made it a few times, I began to experiment with the recipe. Mom was a no-recipe cook, and I do that, too, but I usually follow a new recipe the first time. Most of the time, I can tell by looking if we will like it. I have a husband, 2 sons, 1 granddaughter, and one ex-daughter-in-law. I was chosen to be an AllRecipes Allstar Ambassador in 2012, and I am so excited! I am an Allrecipes Allstar Brand Ambassador (a voluntary position) and I’m not compensated for my work with Allrecipes.com. Products received from advertisers are only used for experienced-based reviews on my blog, "Sweet & Savory". The reviews, content and opinions expressed in this blog are purely the sole opinions of me, Bibi.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is dressing (I'm a Southern Gal) for holiday turkey. I never work from a recipe, but I just start sauteing and mixing, sampling as I go. By the time I think it's right for the oven, I've eaten a full serving of the raw mix!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have some heirloom recipes from both my grandmothers, my mother, and other family members. When I prepare them, I am remembering time in their kitchens.
My cooking triumphs
One year, we hosted my husband's office Christmas party in our home. I did the whole dinner for 24, and it was a huge success.
My cooking tragedies
My first try at making croissants was kind of embarrassing. The croissants were a success, but the house was a disaster, and of course, the guests were already there! The recipe said to bake them in a jelly roll pan, but I used a cookie sheet. As the butter in the croissants melted, it ran off the sheet and into the hot oven, smoking up the whole house! Was my face red ...
