First time made it as written--exception used dry red wine. Turned out great! Have made it since with modifications--personal preference. Used fressh herbs (tripled amount and added some basil)also added 28oz Italian plum peeled tomatoes-chopped. Made it a bit more chunky. Also, added 1 small can tomato paste.

Argentine Lentil Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2015
I liked the recipe-very unique, but made a few changes based on reviews. I used Chicken stock vs. water and vegetable boullion. I also used a can of diced tomatoes instead of fresh--its winter and I can't get "good" fresh tomatoes. For the BBQ sauce I used "Bob's BBQ Sauce" on this site. It is a simple sweet sauce. I added "Liquid Smoke" for a "Smokey" flavor in a bbq sauce-I used 1/2 cup. I added the carrots and celery with the lentils and also small diced potato. I did spices--1/4 tsp cumin, oregano, italian seasonings. I waited until the end to add the peas. After tasting the broth I decided to take another reviewer's recommendation and added about 1 Tablespoon of balsamic vinegar. I really liked that addition. I did simmer this on low longer than to get the apples softer, but it may have been the temperature setting.

Orange Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
I have made this a few times and my family loves it. The first time followed the recipe as written and was happy with it. Since than I have sometime made modifications like using lemon cake or have used orange extract. I have for an adult crowd, substituted half the orange juice for Cointreau--making it into an Orange version of a Rum Cake.

Bob's BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2015
This is my family's favorite BBQ sauce. We made it the first time only because it was the only recipe on allrecipes that we had all the ingredients on hand. Turned out fantastic! Follow recipe as written and have used on beef/pork ribs, chicken and anything we need BBQ sauce for. Thanks for a great simple recipe that ended up being the BEST!

World's Best Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2015
After reading multiple reviews, I made the following changes. I used 5 lbs red potatoes, 1 tsp celery seed, increased the corn starch to 2 teaspoons, used 1/4 c. white vinegar and 1/4c apple cider vinegar, and decreased the sugar to 1/3 of a cup. I chopped regular "sweet" onion very fine and added 1/2 cup and added 3 green onions - my husband does like onion flavor - might be to much for someone else. The other addition I added was 1/4 c. sweet pickle relish and 1/4 c. finely chopped red pepper. Pickle relish added flavor red pepper added color. Very rich, creamy, unique flavor!

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2015
This is my husband's FAVORITE! I have made it several times as written and also with modifications always comes out excellent I like to add garlic slivers into the tenderloin (use almost an entire head of garlic). I also use low sodium soy sauce or cut down a bit on the amount of soy sauce. I always use dry red wine like a cabernet or chianti. I do add some corn starch at the end just to thicken the gravy a bit. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans. The other changes I make--our family preferences--I like to add "fresh" herbs like thyme and rosemary. I also at the end add sauteed mushrooms to the gravy. Again, this is my husbands favorite recioe from this site!

Ranch Dressing II

Great recipe - really fresh tasting! I took other reviewers tips and use 1/2 cup each sour cream, mayo, and buttermilk. When possible try to use fresh herbs (need to triple amount vs using dried).

Chef John's Beef Goulash

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2014
Great Combination of Spices! Followed recipe as written - used all ingredients as written without substitutions. Also if too spicy, sour cream on side - perfect gravy and tender meat. I did add carrots and mushrooms. My family, happy with unique smoky spiciness. Made it during Chicago snowstorm, and served it with egg noodles, crusty bread, and red wine. Perfect dinner!

Oven Fried Chicken III

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2014
Love this recipe! I have made this several times followed other reviewers advice added a little milk to the mayo. I have adjusted or modified spices, but just for our preferences. I also followed a reviewers advice and placed on a rack so the chicken would not got "soggy" on bottom. Great recipe!!! Mayonnaise is the trick.

Roasted Soda Can Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2015
I have made this recipe and used the brown sugar/butter/garlic/lemon rub even on turkey--INCREDIBLE. The color of the skin-looks like a magazine cover-tastes great. It kills me because I have always had the willpower until now not to eat the skin! I have made this many times. I use larger chickens so oven temperature is 350 and 20 minutes per pound. I have used different types of soda-both diet and regular and it doesn't make a difference. I usually use ginger ale, but have used coke, orange soda and beer and the results are always the same--outstanding! Here are some suggestions that I have done that my family likes. I use the "Citurs Brine" found on this site. I add garlic and onion to the soda can and stuff the cavity of the chicken with fresh herbs and additional garlic. I also like to put vegetables like celery, carrots, and fennel on the bottom of the pan and add either chicken broth or water--so I can make homemade gravy out of the drippings.
