Hot and Sour Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2013
Fantastic! Hubby and I did a taste test and ended up adding a little more szechuan and a few more squirts of soy sauce for more flavor. Also browned the pork in the sesame oil, and left out the corn. Added thin sliced onion, snap peas, and a few carrot strips for color. Saved the green onion to top the soup once served. Next time I will add some straw mushrooms.

Bob's Stuffed Banana Peppers

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2012
There were just the 2 of us, so did some minor changes but kept the basic recipe. I used 1 pound of Bob Evan's Italian sausage and that was plenty. To the sausage, halved all other ingredients, plus added some pepper flakes for a little heat to take the place of the hot sausage. Made the whole recipe of sauce and I am glad that I did. Topped with mozarella cheese halfway through baking. These were the bomb! Stuffed 12 medium banana peppers, so plenty left.

Asian Glazed Chicken Thighs

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2011
I unfortunately did not have honey, which I am sure would have definitely gave a better flavor, but instead used agave syrup which is all I had at the time. Will try again with honey. Also next time would reduce the sesame oil by about half as I thought it was quite overpowering, but could have just been my oil, it was quite dark. Also added 2 extra tablespoons of the chili sauce to make up for lack of honey and did not think it was too spicy at all! Was pretty tasty.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
These turned out perfect. Made 1/2 with white chocolate PB cups and 1/2 with regular, and added colored sprinkles when chocolate was warm for festive appearance. Do put pb cups in freezer till ready and put cookies in fridge after gently loosening with knife till center sets. Highly recommend the mini muffin tins and I did lightly spray the pan with cooking spray. I also used a mini scoop for 40 perfect balls, and chilled before trying to get out of pan. It was cold out, so I put mine on a table on the deck (right off the kitchen) and they chilled very quickly. Put on some Christmas music and enjoy the experience!

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
Made these with limes and used 1/2 cup (3 limes) juice, plus the zest from the limes. Also used 1 tbs. extra juice for a more tart bar, otherwise followed the recipe as stated, and they turned out perfect. I wouldn't have wanted the crust any thicker, and would have not wanted any more filling as it was so tart. I did spray the pan with cooking spray before pressing in the crust. also let the crust cool before adding the filling to bake, and chilled bars for easier cutting. No problem getting them out of the pan if you have the right tools. This one is a keeper!

Potato Casserole IV

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2005
We make this every Christmas and Easter with our honey baked ham. I also substitute another cream of chicken soup in place of the cream of mushroom. A tip: mix up a day early and keep in fridge, that way potatoes are thawed and no mess mixing up at last minute. You do have to thaw the potatoes.

Best Spinach Dip Ever

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2005
Very Good. Added some crumbled bacon that I crisped in the microwave and some chopped red pepper to make it more festive to the top only. Also surrounded with some red and green swirled Italian bread cubes that our store has during the Christmas season. Beautiful presentation.

Absolute Mexican Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2005
Fantastic! The only thing I changed was to add the whole can of chili's which really didn't make a difference anyway. Otherwise liked it exactly as recipe stated, including the whole cup of sugar. I like mine a little sweeter, and it was not overly sweet.

Brown Jug Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2005
Very, very good. I did omit the celery and broccoli. On one occasion, I added a little smoked cheddar that I had on hand, and it gave it a very good smokey flavor. This is now a cold weather soup made often in my house.

Italian Roast Beef I

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2005
This was excellent! I cut the spices down to 1 TBS. of each, but doubled the garlic, and used extra virgin olive oil instead of vegetable oil, which added a nice golden color to broth. Put in the crockpot and it was fabulous! Added red potatoes the first day, and the next day, shredded in leftover broth and we had sandwiches with crusty french rolls. Today, since I don't have a beef roast, I am making the exact recipe with a pork roast to shred for sandwiches. This is a keeper!

Pumpernickel Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2003
Great for Christmas potluck parties. Try adding some finely chopped red bell pepper on top for a Christmas touch. I also have buttered, and lightly toasted pumpernickel coctail slices in the oven and served the dip in a nice bowl, accompanied by the bread slices.

Barbecued Beef Cubes or Hamburger

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2003
I have to admit I was sceptical about this recipe, but decided it was quick. I am so glad I tried it! I made it with extra lean ground beef and doubled the sauce, and served with whole wheat spiral pasta and salad. Everyone loved it and the best part was the time it took to prepare. Definitely a keeper.

Romantic Chicken with Artichokes and Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2003
Would make this again. Very fast for a nice romantic dinner after working all day. I did thicken the sauce just a little with cornstarch, and added a little more spices like some of the previous posts suggested. Went well with the buttered noodles and salad.

Rich Cocoa Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2003
This is the first time I have ever had this type of fudge turn out great! This is the real stuff, and would recommend that only experienced cooks make this. The marshmallow stuff just does not compare. Directions have to be followed to a T.

No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2002
This is a great version of these cookies. Make these a lot, but could not find such a good recipe. The only change I made, was that I cooked them for exactly 3 1/2 minutes once the mixture started boiling and they always turn out perfect.

Gramma's Old Fashioned Chili Mac

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2002
This was pretty good. I did not precook my green pepper and onion as we like it a little "fresher". It cooked enough after adding the meat to it. Also added a little chili powder to it, since it is called chili mac. Kids don't like green peppers or onions, so not too kid friendly. All in all, not bad...Maggie

Zesty Porcupine Meatballs

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2002
Haven't had these for years. I thought this was an excellent version. Kids liked them also. I used regular rice which I pre-cooked since I didn't have any instant. Will definitely make these again.

I made this as one of the appetizers for Super Bowl Sunday and it was great. We were fighting over the last few bites! Very quick and tasty.
