Hi, I'm Susie and I've been cooking since I was 6 years old! My great-grandmother let me stand up in a chair at her kitchen counter and taught me how to make cornbread! She and my grandmother(Nanny, as we called her)were both incredible southern cooks and taught me well. My love for cooking has continued throughout my life and I like nothing better than spending time in my kitchen, preparing wonderful food for family and friends! I love discovering and trying out new recipes and putting my own personal touches on them. I love almost every kind of food I've ever tried there's not much out there that I don't like!
My favorite things to cook
Being from Arkansas and raised in a rural area, I love to cook the way my grandmothers taught me...simple, southern classics. However, I also love gourmet food and strive to make all of my dishes look as good as they taste!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hey...I'm from the south! We love anything fried and we love our biscuits and cornbread, along with all those other things that are supposedly bad for you, but are so tasty! Moderation is the key here! These things are not things I cook on a daily basis, but rather save them for special occasions!
My cooking triumphs
Finally!!! After many years of trial and error...I have finally mastered real southern style rolled chicken and dumplings! My dumplings are now tender and mouthwatering in a delicious light chicken gravy! My great grandmother would be proud of me!!
My cooking tragedies
Chicken and Dumplings! My dumplings have always either been too tough or they fell apart! I could never get them right, so I gave up...until last week! I spent a whole day and made 4 batches that promptly went down the disposal until I finally got it right!!
