Ooey Gooey Breakfast Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
The flavor was good on these and I liked the extra something that the butterscotch pudding option gave. The bread was as expected of any roll made from frozen bread dough. My issue with these was temperature related. As Jen said, be careful when hot as they will burn you badly if you try to eat them. The problem is that once they get cool enough to eat, the 'sticky' sauce starts to get hard and is no longer sticky or gooey. By the time they are cool enough to just grab with your fingers and eat, the caramel part is the consistency of taffy and way to hard to be enjoyable. I may try them again, but possibly add a bit of cream or milk or even more butter to 'thin-down' the caramel sauce. I won't make them again as listed though. (It took hours to soak the sauce out of the pan they were baked in.)

Friendship Soup Mix in a Jar

Every person I made this for at Christmas took the time to tell me how great is was later! I took the suggestions of others and used tomato sauce instead of paste. Delicious!

Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
The easiest way to sum this up is this. My husband took one bite and said, "Um, honey, have you tasted these cookies yet?" Then made an icky face. Unlike many, I made these exactly as specified. Unless you like your cookies to taste like wax, don't bother. I read many of the 'five star' reviews and almost all of them made a change, the most common is subbing butter for the Crisco. Of course they taste good then! ;) I keep butter flavor crisco onhand as I make all my pie crusts with it. It makes awesome pie crust but really leaves something to be desired in a cookie. These get one star for the chocolate chips.

Apple-Rosemary Blue Cheese Bites

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
A really good flavor combo, but the taste was too strong. Blue cheese is my salad dressing of choice so I obviously like the flavor. I would make them again, but cut back on the blue cheese. I would also chop the apple up and mix it in. The 'assembly' on these took too long and was awkward. With the apples chopped up, you can pinch the rolls into little baskets like crab puffs. Much easier, just as appealing, and less messy when you bake. (The cheese runs everywhere!) Kudos on the flavor combo though. The rich and flaky roll, the tang and zest of teh blue cheese, and the fresh sweetness of the apples is a great contrast.

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2011
These were absolutely perfect! Good strong ginger flavor to compliment the molasses. And they are versatile. Regardless of how you like your molasses/spice cookies, these are for you. If you like a soft, chewy molasses cookie then make and bake them as directed. If you like a crisp 'gingersnap' kind of cookie, make them as directed, but instead of rolling in sugar, dip a glass in sugar and press flat. Same cook time, same cookie, two awesome variations! My mom likes crispy ones and my dad likes chewy. I was able to make cookies for both in only one batch...delicious!

Amazingly Good Eggnog

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
I was actually looking for a recipe that I could easily make into a non-alcoholic version, so why did I pick the one with 2 1/2 cups of rum? I liked the other proportions! I made this as directed but after cooling the tempered egg mixture I didn't add the rum. I added 2 1/2 more cups of milk (to get the volume right) along with the cream and about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons of rum flavoring. It was delicious and my kids guzzled it like water! I had to make 3 batches of this the week of Christmas...it was a hit.

Homemade Banana Pudding Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
WAY TOO MUCH SUGAR!!! If you do nothing else, reduce the sugar. I made this for a family get-together of 10. Not one person ate more than a couple of bites. The pudding was a good consistancy and had good flavor but was so sweet it made my teeth ache. I might try it again, but it will be greatly altered.

Scalloped Potatoes III

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
I made these potatoes (all 10 pounds of them) for a family BBQ and it was the first empty pan on the table. They are really good and not super 'saucy'. I cut the recipe in half for at home cooking and just freeze the other half of the CoC soup.

Wild Rice and Ham Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
A different flavor and very tasty. It was really 'tangy' though as many stated. I cut the mayo in half and subbed sour cream for the other half. That took care of the mayo issue. The mustard was still a bit strong though. The family and I liked it enough to make it again, but I will just cut the mustard in half next time.

Creamy Strawberry Crepes

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2014
I just made these for my husband today, it is his birthday, and we loved them! Not a single change and truly tasty. If you prepped the fruit and filling the night before (assuming the filling will hold up overnight) it would actually be a quick breakfast for any day. We will definitely be trying this again.

Slow Cooker Carnitas from Old El Paso®

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2013
This one was a no-brainer, super-tasty, and easy as pie to make. It has gone into my weeknight dinner list...yeah for crock pots! My 9yo said "oh, oh, spicy mom!" and then munched down three tacos like there was no tomorrow. Winner!

Crunchy French Toast Sticks

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2013
These were a resounding YES in my home. Everyone loved these. I made 1 1/2 times the recipe and they were gone in about 20 minutes. My husband said he didn't want any and then kept walking by, picking one up, and just munching on it like a granola bar. All I heard him mumble as he walked away every time was "erhmmmm, thesh ish guoud"! He did it 5 times so they must be. :)

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2013
I had never tasted hot buttered rum before and now I wish I hadn't....because it is so awesome! This is a great recipe and makes a ton. I will put a bit more spice in it next time and I may use a couple of packets of spiced cider mix in it (recommended by a British friend) but overall it was wonderful.

Rosemary Chicken Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2011
This is fantastic! I could not stop eating it...so many yummy flavors in one place. it does have too much dressing, but only in regard to oil. Evoo goes a loooong way, so Ijust cut mine in half. I made sure that I made this the day before, mixed in the dressing and then let it sit overnight. This helped a lot as it allowed the couscous to soak up the flavor without it tasting too oily. Fresh herbs are an absolute must here!

Savory Corn Muffins

Good texture and fairly moist. They had a strange aftertaste though. I don't know if it was the can of corn I used or something else, but the flavor was off....almost medicinal?

Chili Dog Casserole II

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2011
If the only objective was to have the taste of shili dogs in a single pan so that it was easily portable, I would give this 3 stars. Other than that, this is tasty, but not exicting. Not worth the work either. It tasted just like chili dogs, but chili dogs only take 10 minutes max. This took prep time and required baking.

Sun-Dried Tomato Cheesecake Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2011
SOOOOOOOO.....GOOD! I found this recipe in 2003 before I was a member, and I loved it. Fate was cruel and I lost the printed recipe in a drawer and then the recipe was out of sight and mind. I found it when cleaning in 2010 and the 'palate-memory' was so strong I LITERALLY started to salivate! Yum-E boys and girls. :)

Wonton Wrappers

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2010
Perfect and exactly what I was looking for! Like another suggested, make sure you roll these really thin or they end up hard instead of crispy. I think if rolled out correctly, you will end up with more like 28 or 30 wrappers.
