Reuben Sandwich I

Reviewed: May 31, 2014
This is a wonderful sandwich! I had a craving for a Reuben, and bought the pastrami, so I guess it's a "Rachel". I didn't see marbled rye at our local market, so I bought a wonderful Idaho sour dough (yes, Apicella makes a really good sourdough bread). REALLY GOOD GOOD GOOD!

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
Wonderful and filling. I followed the recipe with the exception of adding spinach and baby lima beans. I also gave a guick rince over the cooked sausage to drain some of the fat and salt. This recipes great, it'll be added to my favorites!

Ground Beef and Cabbage

Very good. I used ground turkey to cut down on calories (I'm doing Weight Watchers, so this works well!). One time I put in caraway seed. GOOD.

Slow Cooker Pumpkin Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2013
Good chili, but I will say, I tweeked this just a bit, added a few things from another Pumpkin Chili recipe. I added one yellow and one orange bell pepper and doubled the cumin and chili powder, added hot pepper flakes and a small can of green chilies. LOVED the fresh pumpkin in this recipe. Great base recipe to work with and make it your own. Thank you!

Cinnamon Sweet Potato Chips

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2013
So good and the house smelled heavenly. I baked mine longer, turned, and they were still a wee bit moist, so I turned the oven off and cracked the oven door for another 6 or 8 minutes to let them crisp up. PERFECT.

Easy Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2013
Really good, really easy. I have made these before. This time I added a couple of teaspoons of raspberry seedless jam, dried currants and a dash of vanilla to the milk/egg/oil mixture. YEAH BABY! Soooo much flavor.

No-Knead Artisan Style Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2013
Very good! Sure don't have to work very hard at all for this good bread. Came out just fine; don't over think, don't worry about it being a very wet dough. Did not stick to my cast iron dutch oven at all - I used a sprinkle of corn meal at the bottom. I will make this again and again!

Roast Beef and Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2012
Really great and easy. I usually use red wine, but liked it very much with sherry for a change (not cooking sherry, buy a decent brand, then you can have some for yourself). The meat and the gravy is excellent!

Green Goddess Dressing III

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2012
WOW....great fresh garden taste! I remember Green Goddess dressing back in the '60s, before restaurants started offering Ranch. What a shame more don't bring this delight back. I feel this recipe is the best because of the amount of parsley - the entire bunch! If you cannot find tarragon vinegar, just sprinkle a little dry tarragon in the dressing. I would take this in jars to co-workers. They LOVED it. :o) Thank you, Verdie

EXCELLENT! I took one of the first reviewer's tip, and used 2 cups flour and 1 cup oats, ground to powder in the blender. NICE!!! I will use the ground oats trick for now on! Thank you, Dora!

Easy Cheese Ball II

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2012
Made this for "Girls Night"...everyone LOVED it! This is a great basic recipe that can take on many different flavor variations: I used only HALF of the ranch dressing mix; added dill, bacon bits, chopped green onions, finely chopped parsley and used sharp cheddar cheese. So many things one can do with this recipe, it's endless! (And makes a BIG cheese ball)...:o)

Creamy Dill Cucumber Toasties

Good...but used less of the dry Italian salad mix (too salty) and added a squirt of lemon juice and a little dill in the mix, not just on top.

Chilled Rice Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
Five stars because all the flavors worked well together. The second time I made this dish I added dried currants - GREAT!!! And I used red and orange bell pepper. It was nice having this available in the fridge when we wanted just a little something to eat, or to take to work for lunch. I did up the curry powder just a wee bit. ;o) YUM I

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2012
Wonderful! I followed the recipe with the exception that I used currants instead of raisins, and just 1.5 cups. Loved how it baked in the old cast iron dutch oven, and slid right out when cooled a bit. THIS IS A WONDERFUL SODA BREAD RECIPE! I will make this a couple of times a year, not just on St. Patrick's Day. ;o) Everyone loved it! ***I used all of the liquid and it turned out fine; (this is a very sticky dough F.Y.I.), turns out great. Pinch more salt next time.
