We had a great afternoon at the Mississippi Palisades State Park. The weather was perfect and we had most of the park to ourselves.
That's the Mississippi River! Amazing! To my far left is Illinois, Iowa is behind me.
I guess it's a tradition to carve your name here - there are thousands of names and dates!
The next night we walked to the old Shimer College, which was founded in 1853. It is no longer a college, but the campus is now home to the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies. People come from all over the world
to attend classes and workshops there. The campus is full of lush lawns, enormous oak trees, and beautiful historic buildings. It's quite peaceful to stroll through the grounds and think of all the young minds that once walked these same sidewalks.
I must say, I've really enjoyed my time here in this little town! It's full of wonderfully creative people and beautiful sites. CookinBug, Mr. CookinBug, Chase, & Layla were very nice to welcome me with open arms! I really hope I can come back soon because
CookinBug says there are so many other places she wants to show me... like Poopy's, which is a HUGE motorcycle bar! I couldn't go this time because I couldn't find my ID and the bouncer promptly escorted me right back out!
I'll be checking in soon from my next stop! Ciao!
