We went out for a small bit of-a sight-a-seeing yesterday and Caroline, she take me to Red Wing Shoe Company - big business here in Beautiful Red Wing. Charles H. Beckman, he start-a da Red Wing Shoes in 1905 - just a little bit before Luigi's time, yes?!
In the photos, you will see-a two different plant locations for the Red Wings; the first is-a no longer making da boots, but it is still there. A newer building is-a the home to the factory now, but the traditions and standards, dey are still-a da same.
You can also-a see dat dey have in their store the worlds largest boot! Its a size 638 and 1/2 D! It-a take somebody who is-a 120 feet-a tall to fit-a dat boot! We better go look-a for dat Jolly Green Giant, no?!
Remember when I say dat Caroline, she say if you no like-a da weather, wait-a five minuto? Well I find out how right-a she is! Yesterday it was bright and shiny one minuto, then the rain, she start to fall and then even the hail! An hour later and it was all
sunny day again - crazy stuff I tell you!! It never get real-a warm yesterday, so for dinner, Caroline and I, we make a real Minnesota dish - Goulash! Not-a de Hungarian Goulash, this Goulash is-a hearty, "stick-a-to-your-ribs" hot dish and oh boy was dat-a
some good stuff! Chef-a really like-a dat! I gonna gain so much-a weight if I stay here too long!
Caroline, she say we gonna try to get in to-a see some of de restaurants around town - and we have-a so much more to see and-a do and so little-a time!
Fino alla prossima volta!
Dis is-a Plant 1 - it-a no longer in operation but still standing!
Dis is-a Plant 2 - it-a now da home of all da shoes made in Red Wing. Modern and sleek, no?
Dis is-a da world's largest-a boot! It-a take somebody 120 feet tall to-a fit dat boot! Oh my! It-s
Dis is-a what it start out-a looking like...
Den de rain - she-a start-a coming down hard!
Then da hail, she start to come down-a pretty hard . . .
And den de beautiful day, she come-a back again!
And after the cool day, we sit-a down to a nice-a hearty Goulash supper! Yum!
