About this Cook
I am a widow, retired nurse of 30 + years of service in a local medical center. I love to cook and try out new recipes even if I do live alone. I share some of my dishes with my neighbor who is always doing nice things for me. I have 4 living stepchildren and 2 living biological children. Too many grands, great-grands, and great-great-grands to count anymore. Just got a new great-grandson this month. I love cats and have 6 housecats who are just wonderful and lots of company. Not planning to get any more unless I lose of these. I am Methodist, love my Lord. I love collecting and writing recipes and collecting cookbooks. I used to garden until arthritis said no more. Too hard on the back and knees. My late husband and I were married 30 and 1/2 years when he died. He was the love of my life. If you need to know more, just ask.
My favorite things to cook
Everything and recipes that are a challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ham and all the trimmings plus turkey/ dressing with all the trimmings for Thanksgiving. For Christmas all of the kids request my chili. So on Christmas I make at least nine pounds of chili. The kids chip in and bring cold cuts, hot dogs, chips and dips etc that holiday. No chili left over.
My cooking triumphs
Won a blue ribbon one year at the fair for my canned tomatoes. I only entered one year on a dare.
My cooking tragedies
Too many to mention when I was learning to cook. Have been cooking since I was 9 years old. Have ruined a lot of new untried recipes in my life time.

Best Ever Corn Muffins
Switch out the measurements for the cornmeal and biscuit mix, leave out the vanilla, then you can call this corn muffins. Oh yes cut the sugar to 1 tbsp.

Spicy Potato Wedges
Good recipe. I don't like microwave cooking so I will bake these at 400 -425 degrees for about 25 minutes or so.

Dumplings
This is almost like my Momma's recipe except she added one egg and rolled out the dough thin but not real thin and cut the dough into 1/2 inch or smaller squares. She put them into boiling broth and covered with a lid for about 5 mins or so then cooked uncovered until the dumplings were done. They were so light and fluffy not to mention yummy!
