Very pleased with this recipe! My first apple pie in years and it couldn't have turned out better. Followed the recipe as written except I tossed the apples (6 large Granny Smith) with a few shakes of cinnamon before layering in the dish. I was a little worried because my sauce simmered for more than 5 min while I prepared the lattice top and seemed quite thick when I poured it on, but after baking the inside was perfectly uniform and held together nicely when sliced - not runny at all, and the bottom crust wasn't soggy.
Next time I might follow other reviewer's suggestions and mix in one or two sweeter apples and a little more cinnamon or nutmeg, but it was very, very good as written.
