Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2013
So I just made these and I have to say I am really impressed. I didn't use the glaze that was in the recipe, I made mine so I could fill them with a nice cream filling. My husband ate two one right after the other. I didn't have a hard time at all with them not raising, soon as I put them in the oil they puffed up even more. Thanks for the great recipe!!!!!

Scottish Mince Pie

Really close to my grandmothers Scottish Mince Pie. Really nice flavour. She was from Inverness. Thank for the nice recipe. I used stock instead of bouillon which cut back on the salt, otherwise fabulous

Canadian Butter Tarts

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2012
I used my own pastry recipe,if its not broken, then well yah know. I omitted the hot water and only added a small amount of walnuts. For that extra zip I added a tablespoon of maple syrup. That's just how I like them, not that the original wasn't good. I think the folks that found it too runny is because of the water and not adding the coconut and rasins. So if you are not going to add these things, omit water, and bake it longer at a lower temp.

Sweet Mustard Pickles

WONDERFUL!!! I didn't have curry powder, but I followed everything else to the letter and was absolutely pleased with the results. I have had to hide these from my husband so he doesn't eat them all before winter.

Sugarless Banana Walnut Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2012
I really liked it. I wasn't anticipating a sweet tast, but I was surprised that it was just sweet enough. I did add coconut, because we like it, not that the cake needed it. My banana's were almost all black and so they made the cake great. I made it a second time and I added crushed strawberries. This is a good recipe that you can have as is or add some other berries. Nice job.

Wilted Cabbage Salad with Bacon

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2012
this was good, but I can honestly say that my grandmother from Ireland made this a lot. Some times more than my father would have liked. We used the ends of salted pork to make it and no garlic. I really enjoyed the changes

Rich Danish Waffles

yah now I have a new favorite. I always made Belgian waffles, but I really love the texture and flavour of these. I scaled the recipe down, but still had loads left so I froze them and they still come out fabulous. Thanks

Ground Beef and Rice with Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
i gave this 5 stars because it was a good idea. I cut back on the chilie powder because we don't like it that spicey. I used my head and cooked the rice in my rice cooker using the measurements for my rice cooker. For those people who didn't like this because it was too spicey, you have to season to taste. As the beef is cooking add a bit of spice, let it cook some, taste it, if its good, then fine if not add a bit more. Over all it was good inexpensive idea. I made changes to the way we eat, but I did enjoy the recipe.

Really liked this one. Because I know how much spice we like, I just used enough to our tast. I used bacon that I made myself and my own beans. Very yummy!!! Thanks for the great recipe

Homemade Pork Sausage

Nice recipe. For all that feel it was too spicey, you have to remember that you season to taste. If you aren`t big on spicey food just use a dash.

Sawmill Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
Not too bad. I left out the salt cause I always season to taste and I found it salty enough. When my dad had it he said it was like the gravy that was served in a few of the work camps in the 30's. He said it was tasty stick to your ribs good.

Scottish Shortbread III

Lovely!!! If youare finding that you need to add vanilla, then use salted butter instead. These cookies shouldn't need any flavouring at all as the sugar and butter should stand on its own.
