About this Cook
I live with my husband on a small farm in my home town. We met at a horse stable and fell head over heals, bought a house in my hometown and now more and more we are living happily off the land.
My favorite things to cook
I like simple home cooking. Because of many food issues, I have to cook all natural, so even a loaf of bread has to be home madewith only the simplest and purest ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family's heritage is Irish, Scotish and French Canadian, so we are influenced by the traditional foods. My grandmother (Irish) passed down some wonderful traditional recipes that we all enjoy at family gatherings. But when mom brings out the maple syrup you know that we are in for some good old fashion Canadien cooking.
My cooking triumphs
I can honestly say that I can only judge my successes by my families reaction to the food I put in front of them, but mastering the pie crust after 20 years of trying was my greatest triumph.
My cooking tragedies
Because I have been cooking since I was 8 yrs old, I should have lots of material for this section. I think my worst tragedy was last Christmas. It was the day before Christmas and I was in a big rush to get things done for a family gathering. I was trying to be super woman doing to many things at once. I declined my husbands help (big mistake), so the lovely cookies I was baking payed dearly for my attention issues. I was distracted by my husband and great over taxed, so the 1 1/4 cups of flour for the cookies remained 1/4 cup of flour. They spread out on the cookie sheet during baking and stuck so hard and fast because I also forgot to spray the pan. I had to scrape them off the sheet and try to fix the dough in order to save the rest of the cookies. That went horribly worng because by this time I was so frazzeled that I just kept making more mistakes. My husband said that they tasted wonderful, but they were an absolute mess. Should have taken a time out.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts
So I just made these and I have to say I am really impressed. I didn't use the glaze that was in the recipe, I made mine so I could fill them with a nice cream filling. My husband ate two one right after the other. I didn't have a hard time at all with them not raising, soon as I put them in the oil they puffed up even more. Thanks for the great recipe!!!!!

Scottish Mince Pie
Really close to my grandmothers Scottish Mince Pie. Really nice flavour. She was from Inverness. Thank for the nice recipe. I used stock instead of bouillon which cut back on the salt, otherwise fabulous
