Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: May 9, 2007
I don't know what I did wrong, but this didn't turn out as good as I was expecting. I didn't have any onion or white wine vinegar, so I used a little onion powder and some regular white wine. I honestly don't think that was the problem though, because the reason I disliked the taste was that I found it much too sweet. If I ever make this recipe again, I think I'll leave out the sugar entirely.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2006
The cookies turned out nice but the dough was so difficult to handle, even after chilling it. I added 2/3 cup extra flour to it before even trying to roll it out and it was still too sticky and kept falling apart. In the end I probably used almost 1 and 1/2 extra cups of flour to get this dough to a stage where it would roll out and where I could transfer the cookies to the baking sheet without them falling apart. If I make them again, I'll probably use a little more cinnamon and ginger.

Fruit Preserve Sandwich Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2006
These were nice little cookie sandwiches, but nothing really special. Maybe I just didn't make them right. I doubled the recipe and ended up with about 32 rounds instead of 40. I used splenda instead of white sugar and I didn't have any almonds, so I just added a little almond and vanilla essence to the eggs before combining them with the flour mixture.

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2006
I loved this carrot cake. I had to send it to work with my hubby this morning to stop me from eating it all myself. I used half applesauce and half melted butter instead of oil, half whole wheat flour and a pinch of nutmeg. It was so moist and delicious. I think I might try making muffins with it next time. I also only used about 1 and a half cups of confectioners sugar in the frosting and it was great.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2006
I love this recipe. I usually cut the amounts in half because I'm only making it for 2 people. And the only thing about it that I change is the amount of sugar. I don't add any sugar at all to the sweet potatoes when I mash them and I only add about 1/4 of a cup to the topping. It comes out perfect every time. Like creamy, sweet mashed potatoes with a slightly sweet, nutty taste that doesn't over power the dish. I made this for my husband and I didn't think I'd like it. I could not have been more wrong. We both love it.

Baked Pork Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
I think my expectations for these were too high, considering it was my first attempt at spring rolls. But the filling smelled soooo good while I was making the rolls! These were pretty tasty. Definitely better than most of the Chinese restaurants around here (unfortunately). I made 24 (because the string roll wrappers came in packs of 24) and froze most of them. The reheat nicely! (45 seconds in the microwave and then 15 minutes in the oven to crisp up. Yummy.

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
I'm not a huge blueberry fan but I thought these muffins were WONDERFUL! They were so soft and moist. They melt in your mouth. So good! I'm a fan of lots of different muffin textures, including the more "cakey" kind (which is how I'd describe these), I thought they were perfect. I made a second batch with chocolate chips in and they were gone twice as fast.

Cranberry Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
These didn't taste any different to muffins with eggs in, which was a surprise. I changed this recipe in several ways though. I used whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose, splenda instead of sugar, 3/4 cup of applesauce in place of yogurt and 1/2 a cup of raisins instead of cranberries. I also added cinnamon and vanilla for flavor. I got 6 jumbo muffins out of the recipe. They turned our nicely, very tasty and moist. Wonderful for 150 calories per muffin (75 for regular sized muffins) Maybe next time I'll add some brown sugar on top before baking. Yum.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2006
This was the first curry recipe I've ever tried to make and it turned out great. After reading the reviews here, I decided to leave out all of the salt. I also used low-fat yogurt and half-and-half instead of cream. Yummy.

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2006
These were very easy to make a they looked great when they came out of the oven. I added a little vanilla essence and some mini chocolate chips and used the batter to make mini muffins. They were a little bland, but overall quite tasty. Might add more vanilla next time.

Lower Fat Banana Bread I

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2006
This banana bread turned out wonderfully. I used brown sugar and splenda instead of white sugar, non-fat milk instead of water and I added cinnamon, vanilla essence and chocolate chunks to the recipe. I also sprinkled brown sugar on top before baking.

Cinnamon Rolls II

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2006
I gave this recipe 3 stars because the rolls didn't rise. I don't have a bread machine so I had to make these by hand. The dough turned out well and they did taste nice after baking, but the didn't rise and they weren't soft or moist like other reviewers said. I was disappointed. Not sure where I went wrong. I guess my search for the perfect cinnamon roll recipe continues...

They were very good. We used cinnamon instead of vanilla extract as we were out, but they still turned out nicely. We also used a blender to mix them.

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2002
I never made homemade stuffing until I used this recipe! (I'm 19, just out of home) I used it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, dinner with my family, and a special turkey dinner for my husband. I made it Sunday and it was gone by last night (tuesday!) and I only had one serving!!! He can't get enough of it! I never use the chicken liver though. I forgot to include the first time I made the recipe and it came out yummy, so now I just forget about it. I use Sausage meat not turkey sausage also.

Coconut Oatmeal Cookies II

Very nice, my husband couldn't wait to try them when he found out they had coconut in them. He took some to work and has just e-mailed me to say that his co-workers keep finding reasons to sneek another cookie, even after they've had 3 each! Nice crumbly cookie.

Banana Crepes

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2002
My husband and I loved this recipe! I was looking for a simple but tasty crepe recipie and this is it! I've never made good crepes before, but twice in a row I've made yummy ones with this recipe. We don't actually use the banana part of it, just the crepe recipe!

GORGEOUS! I can't believe this is almost no fat. It was so quick and so easy, and tasted so good that I had to make a second one straight after! My husband loves Banana Bread so I know it won't last long when he gets home...that's why I'm off to have my second piece!!!

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2001
I loved these brownies. They came out really well, chewy and chocolatey and not too rich at all. My husband has a low tolerance for very sweet things, but he loved these! It's great, I've tried a few brownie recipes lately and this one is my favourite!
