I've cooked for church gatherings for several years, but when my son became a culinary student my cooking went to the next level. I've learned some great secrets from him.
My favorite things to cook
Spaghetti. I have my own secret recipe that everyone loves.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Norwegian Christmas treats and hot wassail on Christmas eve.
My cooking triumphs
Lump-free gravy. Secret - when mixing new ingredients into the gravy make sure that one is hot and the other is cold. i.e. Make flour slurry with COLD WATER then add to hot drippings. OR If you start with a hot butter/flour roue then add the broth cold. Who knew!? My son learned that one in his first semester of culinary school.
My cooking tragedies
I learned to cook in my mother's good waterless cookware (protects the vitamins etc) back in the 1960's, but when I got married we had CHEAP one ply aluminum pans. I scorched more potatoes than you can count. LOL Fortunately my sweet husband always said, - "I like camping food" and ate them like a champ. I have since learned the great value of GOOD cookware and knowing which pan to use for which purpose. LOL
