Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2013
DEFINITELY A KEEPER! Easy and looks like it came from the bakery. Small cube apples vs slicing them. Omit soaking in lemon water. Make sure they are cooled before filling in pastry. I tried smaller ones and folded them to look like rectangle vs triangle shape and also tried the bigger piece making it into a triangle. Both are great, husband prefers larger pieces. With the smaller ones I used rolling pin to to make a little larger to hold filling. I omitted glaze and put egg wash on each piece and sprinkled with sugar. Basically, all the suggestions of former reviews. Sure helped.

London Broil II

Used 2 flank steaks and doubled the marinate and overnight them. Great flavor. Scoring the steak makes a big difference. This is definitely a keeper recipe.

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2012
FANTASTIC RECIPE. It's a must to use Mexican vanilla. When I use that vanilla people tend to ask me what is in this that gives it a special flavor. My version: I use 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup butter shortening. I use 1/2 milk choc chips and 1/2 semi-sweet and add a bag of Heath bits.

Tunnel of Fudge Cake II

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2011
Not good. I thought this would be a wonderful recipe with a great fudgy surprise in the center. Boy was I wrong! The cake was extremely dry and also needed a little more flavor as it was very bland. Even the filling couldn't save it! I tried saving it by putting more frosting on it, but it just didn't cover up the dryness. We had quite a few people coming over and I was so glad I tested this before they came. I ended up breaking it up in small pieces then put a filling of pudding mixed with cook whip over it making it into a trote desserdt with chocolate bar shavings on top of it. Not bad for a recovery...but an extremely time consuming lesson.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
These are better sugar cookies then the ones you roll out. I make a bigger cookie and increase the baking time a little. For some reason (to me) it makes a much better cookie. After making them into a ball, I flatten them just a little and springle a little sugar on top. These are the best sugar cookies I have ever made...and...I bake a lot!!

Popcorn Snack Mix

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
We love to play cards and was looking for another snack to make. This one is definitely a "keeper" Everyone loved it. Also made it for my husband to take to someone who had him over for dinner when he was on a trip and they thought I was selling it. Some times I might add 1 or 2 more TB of butter to make it little more flavorful. It really is a great recipe. I don't give 5 stars to a recipe very often. This one is deserving.

Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Cornbread Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
Sorry, but this is definitely not a keeper dish for me. I might suggest after filling the chicken to brown it first. I also added some white wine to the soup, but it still tasted like can soup over chicken to me. Glad others like it. (I also used some sausage like you mentioned) and still no help for me.

Steak 'N' Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
Soup is worth trying. I improvised as I was limited on the items I had on hand. Salt & pepper steak and then saute along with garlic. Microwave carrots & potatoes until half done...adding thyme to them for flavor. I didn't have any onions, but used a can of campbells french onion soup. Add 1 tsp worchestire sauce. Add chopped tomato. Add beef bouillion if needed. This really turned out to be a very flavorful soup.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2007
To make these brownies even better...break up two small hershey candy bars into the batter. Then when you take the brownies out of the oven, break two more candy bars on top and spread with a spoon instead of frosting. Great recipe and so easy when you mix with a spoon vs. a mixer.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
I made this on the stove instead of the crockpot. It was pretty spicey probably due to the kind of enchilada sauce I used. So I decided to add a can of cream of chicken soup and it gave it just the right flavor and also made it thicker.

Raspberry Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2006
My gosh these area excellent cookies. These cookies melt in your mouth. I really didn't think they would be "that" good...but...wow, they were. I used sugar-free raspberry preserves only because I picked up the wrong jar, and it worked out fine. I also used the frosting drizzle. Wonderful recipe.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2005
This is an excellent recipe and the only one I use for chocolate chip cookies. I like to use the semi-sweet and white chips together. I also use a little more of the brown sugar and a little less of the white so it's not too sweet.

This is a simple and flavorful recipe. I love having a sauce to spoon over chicken. The kind of mustard that you use makes a difference.

Texas BBQ Chicken

I like your basic BBQ sauce from a bottle more then this recipe. Actually, that is what I ended up doing. Was OK, just not one of those "keeper" recipes.

Beef and Wine Soup with Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2005
Hearty soup. I cut the wine in half and so glad I did. Made a great roast that I cut up to go in it. Used noodles vs. dumplings and thought it appropriate. Soup tasted even better a few days later.

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2004
The best......I really mean....THE BEST turkey I've ever made! I didn't brine it. I added 1 can of low-sodium chicken broth in the pan along with the wine. Did everything else the same. Then I let the turkey cool, cut it up in slices, strained the veg.from the pan and put the juice back in the pan. I then put the sliced turkey in the juice, and put it in the refrigerator. All I had to do the next day was put the pan in the oven and warm through. After warmed through, I made gravy with the juice. FANTASTIC gravy too!

Tomato and Basil Quiche

This is a very bland recipe. I love tomatoes and made this "just for me", but was disappointed. Make sure the tomatoes have enough salt on them.

Chocolate Caramel Nut Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2004
I made 3 desserts for a party and this is the main one that people went to. It is such an impressive pie with outstanding flavor. Very rich and fudgey. I also drizzled caramel sauce over the top and then added an extra touch of shaved hershey candy bar over the drizzled chocolate & caramel. It is a bit "fussy" to make as far as clean up and bowls, but well worth it.
